Maddie McCormick tallied two goals and an assist to power third-seeded UNCW to a 4-0 victory over sixth-seeded Delaware in the CAA Women’s Soccer Championship Quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Seahawks advance to the semifinals in Hempstead, N.Y. where they will face No. 2 William & Mary on November 6.

Katrina Guillou also registered a multi-point game, adding a goal and an assist. In goal, junior
Carolyn Huddy notched her ninth shutout of the season and even picked up an assist for the Seahawks.
McCormick set the tone early, scoring just 7:20 in the game on a pass from Guillou. It was the lone goal of the first half.
In the 49th minute, a long goal kick by Huddy landed on the foot of McCormick who quickly passed it over to Guillou for a breakaway tally and a 2-0 lead. McCormick made it 3-0 at 64:42 with her 14th goal of the season. The Seahawks added their final goal of the afternoon at 88:27, this time off a strike by
Lindsey Byrne.
UNCW out-shot the Blue Hens, 16-4, on the day. Huddy made two saves for the Seahawks while
Kailyn Rekos had five saves.
UNCW improves to 14-5-1 this season, setting the program record for victories. Delaware finishes the season at 8-9-2 overall and 3-4-2 in CAA play.

Ashley Herndon’s overtime penalty kick gave fourth-seeded James Madison a 1-0 victory over two-time defending champion Northeastern, 1-0, in the CAA Women’s Soccer Championship Quarterfinals. With the victory, the Dukes advance to Friday night’s semifinals against top-seeded Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y.
It was a very evenly played match as Northeastern held a 15-14 advantage in shots while JMU held an 8-5 edge in corners.
After battling to a 0-0 draw in regulation, the Dukes and the Huskies headed to overtime. With 8:20 gone by into the extra period, a penalty kick was awarded to JMU after a Duke was brought down in the box. Herndon set up her shot and sent it into the left side, just out of the reach of a diving
Nathalie Nidetch. It was Herndon’s seventh game-winning goal of the season.
In goal, Nidetch made four saves for the Huskies while
Ellen Forrest cast aside six shots in her ninth shutout of the year for the Dukes.
