CAA Offensive Player of the Week
Aaron Forbes, So., RB, Villanova (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy)
Forbes had a career-high 24 carries for a career-best 151 yards and two touchdowns in No. 16 Villanova’s 24-13 victory over No. 23 UAlbany. The sophomore running back found the end zone from two yards out in the first quarter to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead and then added a 3-yard scoring run early in the third quarter. It was his second 100-yard effort of the season.
CAA Defensive Player of the Week
John Haggart, Jr., DL, Stony Brook (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville)
Haggart set career highs for total tackles (11), tackles for loss (5.5) and sacks (3) and also forced a career-best three fumbles in Stony Brook’s 28-3 win at Delaware. The junior defensive lineman helped anchor a Seawolves’ defense that limited the Blue Hens’ nationally ranked rushing offense to 104 yards. His first forced fumble was returned 55 yards for a TD.
CAA Special Teams Player of the Week
Shane Simpson, Fr., RB/KR, Towson (Easton, Pa./Easton)
Simpson returned a second-quarter kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown in Towson’s 21-7 setback to New Hampshire. The 100-yard return was just the second in Tigers’ history and first since 1988. Simpson, who also contributed 53 yards rushing, had 140 total yards on three kick returns.
CAA Rookie of the Week
Deontez Thompson, Fr., RB, Richmond (Indian Head, Md./Henry. E. Lackey)
Thompson rushed 116 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries and caught two passes for 24 yards and another TD in Richmond’s 35-7 victory at Elon. It was the second 100-yard rushing effort in the past three weeks for Thompson, who scored both TD’s in the first 10 minutes of the second half to help the Spiders pull away.
