RICHMOND, Va. (November 3, 2016) – James Madison University senior midfielder
Ashley Herndon was chosen as the 2016 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Soccer Player of the Year to headline the postseason awards. Drexel University junior goalkeeper
Christiana Ogunsami and College of William & Mary senior back
Clara Logsdon shared CAA Defender of the Year honors while James Madison forward
Haley Crawford was named the CAA Rookie of the Year. Drexel Head Coach
Ray Goon was selected as the CAA Coach of the Year.
Herndon, who was named the CAA Preseason Player of the Year, earned her third straight selection to the All-CAA First Team. She posted 11 goals and six assists this season to finish second in the league in points (28). Five of Herndon’s goals were game-winners, a figure that ranks her 15th in the nation.
Ogunsami, also an All-CAA First Team honoree, had an impressive Dragons debut after transferring from Vanderbilt. She has compiled a 0.84 GAA and ranks 23rd in the nation in saves (101), 14th in shutouts (9) and 14th in save percentage (.871). Six of her nine shutouts resulted in victories. Logsdon received her second consecutive All-CAA First Team nod, starting all 19 games for the Tribe on defense and helping shut down some of the league’s top offensive threats.
Crawford, who landed a spot on the All-CAA Second Team, is currently ranked 12th nationally in assists (9) and has struck for five goals for 19 points. She was named the NSCAA Player of the Week on October 18 after exploding for two goals and three assists over two games.
Goon earned his second CAA Coach of the Year award after guiding the Dragons to their third CAA Championship appearance as the No. 2 seed. Drexel forged an 8-6-4 overall record and a 4-2-3 mark in league play. The Dragons led the CAA in goals against average (1.00) and shutouts (10). Goon was also named CAA Coach of the Year in 2012.
Northeastern, the CAA Regular Season Champions, had four players earn CAA All-First Team status. Junior midfielder
Hannah Lopiccolo (4g, 3a) earned her third straight nod, while senior defender
Mackenzie Dowd (2g, 1a) received her second straight. Junior forward
Kayla Cappuzzo (5g, 5a) and sophomore forward
Hannah Rosenblatt (11g, 4a) both earned a spot on the First Team for the first time.
Joining Ogunsami on the First Team from Drexel was sophomore forward
Vanessa Kara, last year’s top rookie. This season Kara has six goals and five assists for 17 points. William & Mary junior midfielder
Rachel Moore landed a spot on the First Team after posting six goals and five assists.
Hofstra senior
Jill Mulholland capped off her career with an All-CAA First Team nod for the second straight season. Mulholland led the CAA in scoring with 13 goals and eight assists for 34 points, which is good for 15th nationally. She also ranked eighth nationally in game-winning goals (6) and 16th in points per game (1.89).
Rounding out the All-CAA First Team was Elon junior defender
Kendall Ballotti (3g, 1a), who is the first Phoenix player ever to earn All-CAA First Team status.
