RICHMOND, Va. (March 29, 2016) – Elon senior Jen Esposito and James Madison senior Kathleen Stewart were both named CAA Women’s Track and Athletes of the Week, while William & Mary sophomore Leia Mistowski was honored as the CAA Field Athlete of the Week. For the men, Northeastern earned a sweep of the weekly awards as juniors Kwame Fordwor and Kyle Darrow took home the respective Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards.

Esposito performed well, to say the least, at the Raleigh Relays over the weekend, winning the 400-meter hurdles at the meet. The Mansfield, Mass., native finished first with a time of 58.01 and was the only runner with a time under the one-minute mark. That time currently leads all CAA competitors for the event and ranks seventh in the NCAA East Region.

On top of her individual title, Esposito also helped the Phoenix shine in two relays – the 4x100 and the 4x400. EU placed eighth in the 4x100 with a time of 46.86 (second in the CAA this spring) and sixth in the 4x400, clocking a time of 3:48.05 (first in the conference this season).

Stewart equally impressed, despite competing in the 10,000-meter run for the first time during her college career. The senior placed fifth overall, also at the Raleigh Relays, recording a blazing time of 34:26.52. Not only does that currently lead all CAA competitors for the event so far this year, but it also ranks fifth in all of Division I and now is the third-fastest time in JMU program history.

Although it’s still early in the year, Mistowski remained undefeated in the hammer throw after a first-place finish at the Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond, Va., this past weekend. The sophomore had a top throw of 52.26m, which now leads the CAA and is also a season-best mark.

Darrow opened NU’s spring season in impressive fashion, capturing gold in the long jump while also setting a new school record. The junior, who previously set a new Husky long jump record last April (7.72m), broke the mark at the Rice University Victor Lopez Classic in 7.78m. Darrow leads the conference with that performance and now sits in third place in the NCAA East Region.

Fordwor won his first-ever CAA weekly nod after a solid showing in Texas over the weekend. The junior helped the Huskies’ 4x100 relay team finish third in 40.49 and also placed 18th in the 100m dash with a time of 10.96. That relay time currently is first among CAA squads, while Fordwor’s 100m performance ranks second in the league behind William & Mary’s Davion Hutt, who won the CAA track honor one week ago.
