MT. PLEASANT, S.C. (May 27, 2016) – Junior right-hander Dan Powers threw a complete game as second-seeded William & Mary beat #5 Northeastern, 5-1, to stay alive in the CAA Baseball Championship on Friday afternoon at the Ballpark at Patriots Point.

The Tribe (26-29) will be back on the field at 7 p.m. tonight against #6 College of Charleston. The winner of that contest will face top-seeded UNCW in the title game on Saturday. Northeastern dropped to 31-27 with the loss.

Powers gave up only one run on seven hits and struck out six while recording his first complete game of the season. He retired the Huskies in order four times and didn’t allow an extra-base hit while upping his record to 8-5.

Senior outfielder Josh Smith paced the Tribe offense, going 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBI’s. Second baseman Cullen Large reached base four times and scored twice, going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks.

Designated hitter Cam Hanley was the only Northeastern player with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 and scoring the Huskies’ only run.

W&M jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third. Ryder Miconi reached on a fielder’s choice, advanced to third on a Large single and scored on Charley Gould’s groundout. Following a walk to Hunter Smith, Josh Smith smacked a triple to left that brought home two.

Miconi and Large drew walks to open the fifth and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly to center by Hunter Smith plated Miconi and Large came across on a wild pitch to increase the W&M advantage to 5-0.

Northeastern strung together three straight two-out hits to get on the board in the sixth. Hanley singled to left and Cam Walsh beat out a bunt. Catcher Josh Treff delivered an RBI single that brought the Huskies within 5-1.
