Cougars Grab Top Seed for Volleyball #CAAChamps

RICHMOND, Va.  College of Charleston captured its third regular season title since joining the conference in 2013 and headlined Sunday’s announcement of the six-team Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Volleyball Championship field as the top seed.
The 2017 conference tournament takes place at James Madison University from November 16-18 at the Dukes’ own Sinclair Gymnasium. The Cougars ended the regular season on Sunday winning their 14th straight match overall and finished conference play with a 15-1 record, with the team’s lone (and last) defeat coming on Sept. 24 at Northeastern. CofC previously obtained the No. 1 seed for the CAA Championship in 2013 and 2014, winning its first league title in the school’s inaugural season in the conference in 2013. 
Towson finished league play with 12 wins to earn the No. 2 seed for the second time in the past three seasons and defending CAA champion James Madison (11-5 in CAA), hosting the championship for the first time since 2015, is the No. 3 seed. Northeastern (10-6 in CAA) earned the No. 4 seed while Hofstra (9-7 in CAA) appears in its sixth straight postseason tournament after earning the No. 5 seed. Elon (5-11 in CAA) made program history by earning its first-ever CAA postseason tournament berth, obtaining the No. 6 seed after recording the program’s most wins in league action since joining the conference in 2014.  
Quarterfinal play begins on Thursday with the hosts, as third-seeded JMU (20-5 overall) takes on sixth-seeded seeded Elon (16-15 overall) at 4:05 p.m., followed by fourth-seeded Northeastern (17-12 overall) playing fifth-seeded Hofstra (17-13 overall) at 7:05 p.m.
On Friday in the semifinals, second-seeded Towson (26-4, 12-4 in CAA) takes on the JMU/Elon winner at 4:05 p.m.  The second semifinal match features top-seeded College of Charleston (26-4 overall) playing the Northeastern/Hofstra winner at 7:05 p.m.
