JMU, Drexel Advance to WNIT Second Round

Both James Madison and Drexel captured their first round games of the WNIT on Friday. Both teams picked up their first WNIT victories since 2013, which was also the last time two CAA advanced to the second round in the same season.

James Madison will host Virginia while Drexel will host Villanova, with both second round games taking place on Sunday.

HARRISONBURG, Va. – All 10 players scored and pulled down at least one rebound for James Madison on Friday night, as the Dukes rolled to an 80-59 win over Radford in the opening round of the Women's NIT at the JMU Convocation Center.
 
The Dukes (25-8) pushed the tempo on offense, going 31-of-66 (47.0 percent) from the field as they advanced to face in-state foe Virginia in Sunday's second round, with tipoff set for 2 p.m. at the Convo. JMU also held Radford (24-9) to just 7-of-26 (26.9 percent) shooting after halftime, including a 1-of-11 mark in the third quarter.
Sophomore forward Savannah Felgemacher notched her third-career double-double (11pts, 14reb) while Previous Hall tallied 23 points in just 27 minutes of floor time.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Though the Drexel women's basketball team (22-10) found themselves trailing by one at halftime to the Duquesne Dukes (18-16) in a first round WNIT matchup, the Dragons found their offensive stride in the second half to advance in the tournament.

Drexel took down the Dukes by a 70-47 final as the Dragons improved to 13-2 at the DAC this season.
 
Seniors Sarah Curran and Meghan Creighton combined for 40 points on the evening in the win. Curran had a game-high 24 while Creighton added 16.
