JMU Advances, Drexel Falls Short in WNIT Second Round

James Madison is headed to the third round of the WNIT after coming from behind to defeat Virginia while Drexel was edged by Villanova. In a twist, the Dukes will now host the Wildcats on Thursday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. at the Convocation Center.

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison closed out the final 1:33 of the game on a 10-0 run and surged to a 61-55 come-from-behind victory over ACC foe Virginia in the second round of the WNIT. The Dukes will appear in the third round for the first time since the 2013 season.

Precious Hall, who tallied 28 points as the only Duke in double figures. Freshman
Lexie Barrier tallied eight points while
Logan Reynolds had five points, five rebounds, and four assists.
VILLANOVA 56, Drexel 51 | Box Score
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Drexel’s fourth-quarter comeback fell just short as Big East foe Villanova slipped by the Dragons, 56-51, in the second round of the WNIT. The Dragons trimmed an 18-point, fourth-quarter deficit down to three with under a minute to play but could not complete the comeback. Drexel finishes the season with a 22-11 overall record.
In their final games as Dragons,
Sarah Curran delivered 20 points while
Meghan Creighton notched nine points, six assists and seven rebounds. Curran scored in double figures in her final seven games, while Creighton will leave the program as one of only five players in CAA history to have more than 1,000 points, 500 assists, and 400 rebounds.
