WILMINGTON, N.C. (May 25, 2017) – Despite not having a hit, fifth-seeded College of Charleston remained alive in the CAA Baseball Championship after defeating #6 Elon, 1-0, in an elimination game on Thursday afternoon at Brooks Field.

The Cougars (27-30) will be back in action at 11 a.m. Friday against an opponent to be determined, while the Phoenix ended their season with a 24-32 mark.
Elon pitchers Jordan Barrett (4-5) and George Kirby combined on the first no-hitter in the 32-year history of the CAA Baseball Championship, but Charleston took advantage of two walks, a hit batter and a groundout to break a scoreless tie in the fifth.

Junior Bailey Ober and sophomore Nathan Ocker combined on the shutout for the Cougars. Ober improved to 7-2 after giving up four hits and striking out seven during the first 5.0 innings. Ocker limited Elon to three hits over the final 4.0 frames and earned his fourth save of the year.
A 1:33 rain delay in the middle of the fifth inning interrupted a superb pitching duel between Ober and Barrett. After allowing the Phoenix to load the bases in the first, Ober retired 12 consecutive batters and didn’t surrender a run before exiting following the rain.

Barrett didn’t give up a hit and had retired 10 straight Cougars prior to the delay, but was unable to regain his rhythm after returning in the bottom of the fifth. The left-hander issued walks to Erven Roper and Xavier Freeman and then plunked Joey Mundy to load the bases. Bradley Dixon followed with a groundout to first that brought in Roper with the game’s only run.

Elon threatened in the eighth as Joe Satterfield lined a leadoff double to the gap in left-center and advanced to third on a fly out. However, he was thrown out at the plate while attempting to score on Hayden Platt’s grounder to first. Satterfield finished 3-for-4 in the contest and had five hits over Elon’s two games in the tournament.
