RICHMOND, Va. (August 1, 2017) – Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner Joe D’Antonio announced that accomplished collegiate athletic administrator John Marinatto has joined the conference staff as a Special Assistant to the Commissioner.

Marinatto worked in a variety of leadership roles during a decade at the BIG EAST Conference, including serving as Commissioner of the BIG EAST from 2009-12. Among his many accomplishments were overseeing the conference’s expansion efforts that resulted in the addition of seven new members, and representing the league in the Bowl Championship Series.

“I am very pleased to announce the addition of John to our staff and welcome him to the CAA family,” CAA Commissioner Joe D’Antonio said.  “John’s experience, and knowledge of the overall landscape of intercollegiate athletics, will be a tremendous asset to our Conference as we continue to set the course for our future.”

Marinatto has served on some of the NCAA’ s most prestigious committees, including the NCAA Management Council, the NCAA Leadership Council and the NCAA Business and Finance Cabinet. In his role as the Chief Operating Officer of the BIG EAST, he created and administered the conference budget and managed day-to-day operations of the league office. Marinatto served as the primary contact with institutional CEO’s and athletics directors in matters relating to the administration of the conference, and was also involved in negotiating multi-million dollar television and marketing contracts.

"I am very much looking forward to the opportunity to work with Commissioner D'Antonio again, and being able to assist him and the CAA with future planning initiatives,” Marinatto said.

Prior to join the BIG EAST staff, Marinatto worked at Providence College for 22 years and served as Assistant Vice President for Athletics from 1987-2001. In addition to administering a 21-sport program at Providence, he negotiated major television, radio and marketing contracts and created new athletic marketing and promotion departments.
