RICHMOND, Va. (October 22, 2018) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 8 of the 2018 season. Earning honors are Towson junior quarterback Tom Flacco, Delaware senior linebacker Troy Reeder, Delaware senior kick returner/safety Nasir Adderley and Elon freshman running back Jaylan Thomas.
CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Tom Flacco, Jr., QB, Towson (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern)
Flacco accounted for 386 yards of total offense and four touchdowns as Towson won 56-28 at UAlbany to grab sole possession of first place in CAA Football. The junior completed 23-of-36 passes for 308 yards and two TD’s and also ran for a team-high 80 yards and 2 TD’s on 14 carries. It was the fourth 300-yard passing effort for Flacco, who ranks third in FCS in total offense.
CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Troy Reeder, Sr., LB, Delaware (Hockessin, Del./Salesianum)
Reeder contributed a team-high 12 tackles, 3.0 TFL, a sack, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt in Delaware’s 38-14 victory at New Hampshire. He spearheaded a Blue Hens’ defense that held UNH to 190 total yards and one touchdown. The blocked punt and fumble recovery led directly to 10 points as Delaware won its third straight game.
CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Nasir Adderley, Sr., KR/S, Delaware (Philadelphia, Pa./Great Valley)
Adderley became the first Delaware player to return a kickoff for a touchdown since 2013 in the Blue Hens’ 38-14 triumph at New Hampshire. The senior capped UD’s scoring with a 92-yard return early in the fourth quarter. It was the first kickoff return of the season for Adderley, who also contributed five tackles from his safety position.
CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Jaylan Thomas, Fr., RB, Elon (Carrollton, Ga./Carrollton)
Thomas rushed for a career-high 150 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries and also caught two passes for 27 yards and another TD in Elon’s 38-28 victory over Richmond. Making his first career start, the freshman averaged 5.6 yards per carry and became the first Phoenix freshman to top the century mark since 2012. His 30-yard TD reception in the third quarter extended Elon’s lead to 14.
