RICHMOND, Va. (November 12, 2018) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 11 of the 2018 season. Earning honors are James Madison junior quarterback Ben DiNucci, Towson junior linebacker Robert Heyward, William & Mary junior safety Isaiah Laster, Towson junior kicker Aidan O’Neill, and New Hampshire freshman running back Carlos Washington, Jr.
CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Ben DiNucci, Jr., QB, James Madison (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland)
DiNucci accumulated 271 yards of total offense and five touchdowns in James Madison’s 48-31 triumph over Rhode Island. The junior quarterback completed 18-of-25 passes for 227 yards and a career-high four TD’s and added 44 yards and a TD rushing on just nine carries. DiNucci tossed three TD passes in the first 16 minutes and then added the final two in the fourth quarter to help secure the victory.
CAA Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Robert Heyward, Jr., LB, Towson (Savannah, Ga./Calvary Day School)
Heyward recorded a team-high 13 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack in No. 20 Towson’s 41-10 triumph at No. 7/5 Elon. The junior linebacker was part of a stellar effort from the Tigers’ defense, which held the Phoenix to just 238 total yards and a season-low 10 points. For the season, Heyward leads Towson with 83 tackles and is second with 9.0 TFL.
CAA Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Isaiah Laster, Jr., S, William & Mary (Cary, N.C./Panther Creek)
Laster made seven tackles, intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble in William & Mary’s 24-17 victory at Villanova. The junior safety’s first pickoff came in the end zone and the second helped set up the Tribe’s first touchdown. The fumble recovery ended a potential game-tying VU drive with 3:04 to play. Laster was the first W&M player to post multiple interceptions in a game since 2016.
CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Aidan O’Neill, Jr., PK, Towson (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz
O’Neill booted a pair of 45-yard field goals and was 5-for-5 on extra points in Towson’s 41-10 win at Elon. Both of the junior’s field goals came in the second half and expanded the Tigers’ lead to 27-10. O’Neill broke his own school record for field goals in a season, having made 20-of-26, and leads FCS with 2.0 field goals per game. He’s 6-of-9 from beyond 40 yards in 2018.
CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Carlos Washington, Jr., Fr., RB, New Hampshire (Fort Washington, Md./Riverdale Baptist)
Washington rushed for a team-high 142 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries in New Hampshire’s 24-10 victory over UAlbany. The freshman broke loose for a 93-yard scoring run late in the third quarter that was the second-longest in UNH history and gave the Wildcats a 17-3 lead. Washington averaged 12.9 yards per carry and is averaging 118.3 ypg during UNH’s three-game win streak.
