RICHMOND, Va. (November 19, 2018) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 12 of the 2018 season. Earning honors are Villanova senior running back Aaron Forbes, James Madison graduate student running back Cardon Johnson, Richmond junior defensive lineman Maurice Jackson, Maine junior kick returner/wide receiver Earnest Edwards and Maine freshman running back Ramon Jefferson.
CAA Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Aaron Forbes, Sr., RB, Villanova (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy)
Forbes rushed for a season-high 138 yards and a career-best three touchdowns on 24 carries in Villanova’s 42-21 win at Delaware. The senior had TD runs of 1 and 3 yards and then capped the scoring by finding the end zone from 11 yards out in the fourth quarter. He also made three catches for 55 yards.
CAA Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Cardon Johnson, Gr., RB, James Madison (Newport News, Va./Warwick)
Johnson rushed for a season-high 162 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries in James Madison’s 38-17 victory at Towson. The graduate student gave the Dukes a 7-0 lead with a 76-yard scoring run in the first quarter and also had runs of 23 and 45 yards to set up a score in the fourth period. Johnson averaged 12.5 yards per carry.
CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Maurice Jackson, Jr., DL, Richmond (Levittown, Pa./Truman)
Jackson recorded a team-high nine tackles, 4.5 TFL, 3.0 sacks and two forced fumbles in Richmond’s 10-6 triumph at William & Mary. The junior defensive lineman was part of a dominant effort for the Spiders, who held W&M to 212 total yards, including 59 on the ground. The tackles for loss and sacks were tied for the most in a CAA game this season and he finished the year with a league-best 10.5 sacks and 15.5 TFL.
CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Earnest Edwards, Jr., KR/WR, Maine (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute)
Edwards became the first player in Maine and CAA history to return two kickoffs for touchdowns in a game as the Black Bears edged Elon, 27-26, to capture the CAA championship. The junior returned a kick 95 yards for a score in the second quarter and followed with a 93-yard return for a TD in the third period. Edwards, who has four career TD’s
on kickoff returns, ranks 9
th in FCS in KOR average (28.4).
CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Ramon Jefferson, Fr., RB, Maine (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman)
Jefferson rushed for a career-high 130 yards on a career-best 25 carries in Maine’s 27-26 victory over Elon. It was the second 100-yard rushing performance in the past three weeks for the freshman, who averaged 5.2 yards per carry in the contest.
