Twelve CAA Football Players Chosen To STATS All-America Team

2018 STATS FCS All-America Football Team

RICHMOND, Va. (December 18, 2018) – Twelve CAA Football players have been selected to the 2018 STATS FCS All-America team.

Receiving first-team All-America accolades were Maine senior linebacker Sterling Sheffield, Delaware senior safety Nasir Adderley, James Madison senior cornerback Jimmy Moreland and James Madison sophomore punt returner D’Angelo Amos.

Honored on the All-America second team were Elon senior offensive lineman Oli Udoh, Delaware senior linebacker Troy Reeder, Maine senior cornerback Manny Patterson and Towson junior running back/returner Shane Simpson.
Chosen to the third team were Stony Brook senior fullback/tight end Cal Daniels, Delaware senior tight end Charles Scarff, Elon senior linebacker Warren Messer and Towson junior kicker Aidan O’Neill.

Sheffield recorded 84 total tackles, led the CAA with 18.0 tackles for loss and ranked third in the league with 9.5 sacks. He added three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, seven pass breakups and an interception. Adderley made 86 total tackles, topped the Blue Hens with four interceptions, tallied seven pass breakups and had a fumble recovery. Moreland tied for the CAA lead with five interceptions, which he returned for a school-record 217 yards and a conference-record three touchdowns. He also contributed 56 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 10 pass breakups, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt. Amos led FCS in punt return average (22.0 ypr), bringing back 25 punts for 549 yards and a FCS-best three touchdowns.

Udoh, who started all 11 games on the Elon offensive line, helped the Phoenix rank second in the conference in rushing (199.5 ypg) and allowed a league-low 16 quarterback sacks. Reeder topped the CAA with 127 total tackles and was also among league leaders with 13.5 tackles for loss. He also contributed 2.5 sacks, an interception and two forced fumbles. Patterson led FCS with 22 pass breakups this season, was tied for the team lead with three interceptions and made 47 total tackles. Simpson ranks second FCS in all-purpose yardage (171.5 ypg), compiling 711 yards rushing, 356 yards receiving and 991 yards on returns. He scored 12 total touchdowns.

Daniels caught 23 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns and also blocked for a pair of Stony Brook running backs who combined for over 2,000 rushing yards. Scarff led Delaware with 43 receptions for 498 yards and a team-high seven touchdowns. Messer topped Elon and ranked fourth in the CAA with 93 total tackles. He also contributed 11.0 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks and an interception. O’Neill ranked second in FCS with 1.83 field goals per game, converting 22-of-29 field goals and 42-of-43 extra points. He led the CAA with 108 total points.

CAA Football’s 12 All-America selections were the second-most of any FCS conference, trailing only the Missouri Valley Football Conference (17).
