JMU Falls at WVU In WNIT Third Round

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –
West Virginia started the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run, pulling away from a tie game to defeat James Madison 67-55 in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) round of 16 on Friday evening at the WVU Coliseum.
 
JMU ended its season at 23-11 and achieved at least 23 victories for the 13th consecutive season. WVU improved to 24-11 and will host St. John's on Sunday in the quarterfinals.

The Dukes trailed, 42-36, in the third quarter, but surged back with a 6-0 run to tie the game. James Madison took a 46-45 with 1:36 left in the third quarter on a pair of free throws by Logan Reynolds.  After a successful three-point play returned the lead to West Virginia, Kelly Koshuta answered with a lay-up to tie the game 48-48. The score held until the fourth quarter, when the Mountaineers started the frame off with a big run. 

Koshuta led all players with 22 points and nine rebounds for JMU. Sophomore Kamiah Smalls had 10 points, and scored in double figures for the 32and time this season.

Four Mountaineers scored in double figures, including Kristina King who had 17 points. Leading scorer, leading rebounder, and Cheryl Smith Award finalist Teana Muldrow was held to nine points and 10 rebounds.
