Nilsson, Currie & Reilly Set for U.S. Women's Amateur
RICHMOND, Va. – Three student-athletes from Colonial Athletic Association members will tee off in the 2018 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship on Monday, Aug. 6, at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs, Tenn.
College of Charleston’s Chloe Currie will be the first off the tee, going off of hole No. 10 at 8:11 a.m. ET. Elon’s Katherine Reilly will follow shortly thereafter, teeing off of No. 1 at 8:22 a.m. ET. Isi Nilsson, Currie’s College of Charleston teammate, will start her first round in the afternoon, going off No. 1 at 3:31 p.m. ET.
Play on both Monday and Tuesday will consist of stroke play, with the top 64 qualifying for match play beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 8. Match play will continue the remainder of the week, culminating with the championship match on Sunday, Aug. 12.
Tuesday will see Nilsson tee off No. 10 at 10:01 a.m. ET, while Currie is off of No. 1 at 1:41 p.m. and Reilly No. 10 at 1:52 p.m.
A rising senior at CofC, Nilsson qualified with a 1-over par 72 to finish in a tie for fifth in a field of 90 competitors at a U.S. Women's Amateur Championship qualifier held at The Château Élan Golf Club in Braselton, Ga. The All-Colonial Athletic Association Second Team honoree is one of nine players in the U.S. Amateur field that has or will represent their home countries in the Women’s World Amateur Team Championship.
Joined in the field by her teammate Currie, Nilsson and Currie are the first Cougars to qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur since C.C. Buford did so in 2014. Currie earned a spot in the field by firing a 1-over par 73 to finish in a tie for second in a U.S. Amateur sectional qualifier held at the Weston Golf Club in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Reilly earned her spot after winning a playoff hole in competition at the Glenmore Country Club. Lauren Greenleif finished first with a score of 65, while Reilly tied with two others for second with a 70. From there, the trio moved to a playoff and Reilly secured her spot in the U.S. Amateur by hitting her approach within five feet. She converted for a birdie on the par-five to win the playoff. Reilly did not record a bogey during the round and notched a pair of birdies before the playoff hole.
The first two days of competition will not be streamed live, but fans can follow scoring via
