RICHMOND, Va. (September 17, 2018) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 3 of the 2018 season. Earning honors were Towson junior quarterback Tom Flacco, Rhode Island senior quarterback JaJuan Lawson, Stony Brook senior linebacker Shayne Lawless, Richmond senior kick returner/wide receiver Dejon Brissett and UAlbany freshman wide receiver Dev Holmes.
CAA Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Tom Flacco, Jr., QB, Towson (Vorhees, N.J./Rutgers)
Flacco completed 27-of-37 passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns to lead Towson to a 45-35 win at No. 10 Villanova. The junior quarterback added 66 yards rushing on 18 carries as the Tigers beat a Top 10 foe for the first time since 2013. It was the second consecutive 300-yard performance for Flacco, who leads the CAA in passing (303.0 ypg).
CAA Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week
JaJuan Lawson, Sr., QB, Rhode Island (Petaluma, Calif./Casa Grande)
Lawson accounted for 436 yards of total offense and six touchdowns as Rhode Island dropped a narrow 56-49 decision at FBS foe UConn. The senior quarterback completed 23-of-34 passes for a career-high 351 yards and 4 TD’s and ran for a career-high 85 yards and 2 TD’s. It was the second straight 300-yard outing for Lawson, who became the second player in URI history to throw for 4 TD’s in multiple games.
CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Shayne Lawless, Sr., LB, Stony Brook (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown)
Lawless contributed five tackles, two tackles for loss, an interception, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry in Stony Brook’s 28-6 victory at Fordham. The senior linebacker was part of a dominant defensive effort from the Seawolves, who held Fordham to -7 yards rushing and 238 yards overall while keeping the Rams off the scoreboard until the final three minutes of the game.
CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Dejon Brissett, Sr., KR/WR, Richmond (Mississauga, Ontario/Lake Forest Academy)
Brissett returned three kickoffs for 182 yards (60.7 avg.), including a 94-yard return for a touchdown, in Richmond’s 35-27 win at St. Francis. It was Brissett’s first kickoff return TD and first by a Spider since 2012. Brissett finished with 286 all-purpose yards in the game, also contributing nine receptions for 104 yards. He leads FCS in kick return average (51.5 avg.).
CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Dev Holmes, Fr., WR, UAlbany (Troy, N.Y./Troy)
Holmes recorded the second-highest receiving yardage total in program history, catching eight passes for 238 yards and a TD in UAlbany’s 30-27 victory over Morgan State. The freshman wide receiver made a game-winning 88-yard TD reception with 6:54 to play. Holmes leads the CAA and ranks 4
th in FCS with 459 receiving yards for the season.
