RICHMOND, Va. (September 24, 2018) – College of Charleston forward Laura Ortega has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, while James Madison goalkeeper Hannah McShea earned Defensive Player of the Week and Northeastern’s Grace Moore garnered CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Laura Ortega, Charleston
Senior | Forward | Aranjuez, Spain

Ortega became Charleston’s all-time career points leader by scoring two goals in a 1-1 week for the Cougars. The senior matched the Charleston career record of 59 points by converting a free kick in the final minute of regulation to send CofC to a 2-1 win over William & Mary. Ortega’s second-half strike against Drexel moved her into the solo spot at the top with 61 career points and into second place on the career goals list with 21.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Hannah McShea, James Madison
Junior | Goalkeeper | Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County

For the second straight week, McShea collects Defensive Player of the Week honors after turning in two shutouts for the Dukes. After tallying one save and stopping a 1-on-1 breakaway in James Madison’s 1-0 win at Drexel, McShea turned in four saves against Hofstra, helping the Dukes to a 1-0 win. McShea and JMU’s four straight shutouts is the first for the program since 2005, and the Dukes are 60:02 away from program record for consecutive minutes without yielding a goal.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Grace Moore, Northeastern
Freshman | Defender | Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill

Moore helped Northeastern collect two wins to open CAA play, playing on a back line that allowed just one goal and six shot attempts in 188 minutes. The freshman earned her first collegiate point during Northeastern's 2-1 victory against Delaware, sending a 40-yard free kick to the back post where Katarina Nilsson converted to give the Huskies an early lead. Moore was part of a defensive effort that shutout UNCW to close the week.
