CAA FOOTBALL WEEKLY RELEASE (PDF format)

RICHMOND, Va. (October 1, 2018) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 5 of the 2018 season. Earning honors are Towson junior quarterback Tom Flacco, Elon junior defensive end Marcus Willoughby, Rhode Island junior kick returner Ahmere Dorsey and James Madison freshman wide receiver Kyndel Dean.
 
CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Tom Flacco, Jr., QB, Towson (Vorhees, N.J./Eastern)

Flacco accounted for 438 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in Towson’s 44-27 win over The Citadel. The junior quarterback completed 15-of-23 passes for 253 yards and 2 TD’s and ran for a career-high 185 yards and 2 TD’s on 15 carries as the Tigers piled up 608 yards of offense. The 185 rushing yards were the most-ever by a Towson quarterback and it was Flacco’s fourth consecutive game with at least 245 passing yards.

Marcus Willoughby, Jr., DE, Elon (Durham, N.C./Durham Riverside)

Willoughby recorded a team-high nine tackles, including a career-best 4.5 tackles for loss and two sacks, as Elon defeated New Hampshire, 30-9, in its CAA opener. The nine stops were one shy of his career-high and the 4.5 TFL were the most by a CAA player this season. Willoughby led an Elon defense that held UNH to 218 total yards, including just 46 yards and no points in the second half.

Ahmere Dorsey, Jr., KR/PR, Rhode Island (Wilmington, Del./Delcastle Vo Tech)

Dorsey returned six kickoffs for 232 yards, including a 97-yard return for a touchdown in the third quarter that proved to be the difference in Rhode Island’s 23-16 triumph at Harvard. The TD return was the fifth-longest in school history and was Dorsey’s second special teams touchdown of the year. He finished with 243 all-purpose yards in the game.

Kyndel Dean, Fr., WR, James Madison (Winston-Salem, N.C./Parkland)

Dean set career-highs with five receptions for 82 yards and two touchdowns in James Madison’s 63-10 victory at Richmond. The freshman wide receiver caught a 2-yard scoring pass that extended the Dukes’ lead to 28-3 in the second quarter and then added a 35-yard TD grab in the third period. JMU finished with 543 yards of total offense and posted the biggest road win in school history.
