Jess Genco has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while William & Mary freshman guard
Eva Hodgson collected Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week honors. Additionally, Towson redshirt sophomore guard
Kionna Jeter earned Honorable Mention Player of the Week accolades.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Jess Genco, Northeastern
Senior | Guard | Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep
For the third time this season, Genco earned CAA Player of the Week honors, this time after leading Northeastern to a 2-0 start in CAA play. Genco averaged 27.0 points per game to go along with 6.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists. In Northeastern’s 79-71 win over Elon, Genco became the Huskies’ all-time leader in 3-pointers, finishing her week with 251 for her career. Genco posted 24 points in the conference-opening win over Elon before tallying her fourth effort of the season with at least 30 points with a 30-point effort against William & Mary.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Eva Hodgson, William & Mary
Freshman | Guard | Rindge, N.H./The New Hampton School
In a 1-1 week for William & Mary, Hodgson averaged 17.0 points per game, going 10-of-18 from the field. Hodgson opened the two-game CAA road trip with a career-high 18 points in the Tribe’s 60-55 win at Hofstra. The freshman added two steals and two assists in the victory. On Sunday, Hodgson followed up the effort with 16 points, going 4-for-4 from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 mark from 3-point range. The rookie of the week accolade is the second of the season for Hodgson.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HONORABLE MENTION PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Kionna Jeter, Towson
Redshirt Sophomore | Guard | Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg (Gulf Coast State)
Jeter led Towson to the program’s first 2-0 start in CAA play since 2013-14, averaging 22.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. In Towson’s 55-54 win at Drexel, which snapped a 19-game losing streak to the Dragons, Jeter posted 21 points, 17 in the second half of the comeback victory. Sunday presented a similar story, as 17 of Jeter’s 24 points came in the second half as Towson knocked off host Delaware, 56-48.
