CAA Football Weekly Awards - Oct. 14

RICHMOND, Va. (October 14, 2019) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 7 of the 2019 season. Earning honors are Elon junior quarterback Davis Cheek, UAlbany redshirt freshman quarterback Jeff Undercuffler, James Madison senior defensive end John Daka, Richmond junior linebacker Tyler Dressler, New Hampshire senior punter Drew Sanborn and New Hampshire freshman quarterback Max Brosmer.
 
CAA Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Davis Cheek, Jr., QB, Elon (Matthews, N.C./Butler)
 
Cheek completed 22-of-25 passes for a season-high 259 yards and a touchdown as Elon topped No. 15 Delaware, 42-7. The junior was a perfect 13-for-13 in the second half as the Phoenix scored TD’s on its final four possessions to pull away. The 88% completion percentage is the best in FCS this season and the highest by an Elon quarterback in the Division I era.
 
CAA Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Jeff Undercuffler, R-Fr., QB, UAlbany (Atlanta, Ga./Georgia Prep)
 
Undercuffler completed 22-of-30 passes for 380 yards and two touchdowns as UAlbany knocked off No. 9 Towson, 38-21, on the road. The 380-yard effort was the 2nd-best in program history and Undercuffler’s fifth straight game with 200+ yards through the air. He’s had multiple TD passes in all seven games and he’s tied for second in FCS with 20 TD passes this season.
 
CAA Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week
John Daka, Sr., DL, James Madison (Upper Marlboro, Md./Wise)
 
Daka contributed career-highs of nine tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks as No. 2 James Madison rallied past No. 5 Villanova, 38-24. The senior defensive end also forced a fumble that set up a game-tying touchdown early in the fourth quarter. The 5.0 tackles for loss are the most by a CAA player this season and the 2nd-most by any player in FCS.

CAA Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Tyler Dressler, Jr., LB, Richmond (Covington, Va./Covington)
 
Dressler recorded a career-high 20 tackles as Richmond picked up a 24-17 road win at No. 18 Maine. The 20 tackles are the most by any player in FCS this season, the most by a CAA player since 2017 and the most by a UR player since 2011. Dressler also had a key tackle for loss in the red zone on Maine’s final possession.

CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Drew Sanborn, Sr., P, New Hampshire (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin)
 
Sanborn averaged 46.2 yards on four punts in New Hampshire’s 20-14 win at Stony Brook. Three of the senior’s four punts pinned the Seawolves inside the 20-yard line and two kicks were over 50 yards. Sanborn is averaging 41.2 yards per punt for the season.

CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Max Brosmer, Fr., QB, New Hampshire (Roswell, Ga./Centennial)
 
Brosmer completed 16-of-26 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns to lead New Hampshire to a 20-14 road win at No. 22 Stony Brook. Trailing by four in the fourth quarter, Brosmer guided the Wildcats on a 13-play, 73-yard drive, capped by a 20-yard scoring toss to Brian Espanet with 9:32 to go. It was Brosmer’s third multi-TD effort and helped UNH to its fourth straight victory.
