RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 14, 2019) – UNCW junior defender
Alejandro Saez has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Soccer Offensive Players of the Week, while the Seahawks’
Gabriel Perrotta earned Defensive Player of the Week and William & Mary midfielder
Alfredo Bozalongo garnered CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Alejandro Saez, UNCW
Junior | Defender | Sugar Land, Texas/William P. Clements
Saez scored the first two goals of his college career to lead the Seahawks to a 2-0 victory over Old Dominion on Wednesday night. Saez’ first goal of the night gave UNCW a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute before adding an insurance goal less than three minutes into the second half. The defender was part of UNCW’s shutout of Charleston to close the week, keeping the Seahawks in a tie atop the CAA table with James Madison.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Gabriel Perrotta, UNCW
Freshman | Goalkeeper | Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Internacional
Perrotta anchored a UNCW defensive unit that posted back-to-back shutouts last week while extending the Seahawks' win streak to three games. Perrotta made two saves in a 2-0 victory over Old Dominion before adding a save in a 1-0 triumph over Charleston. In his freshman year, Perrotta has authored a 7-2-1 record with four clean sheets.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Alfredo Bozalongo, William & Mary
Freshman | Midfielder | Logrono, La Rioja, Spain/Agustinas
Bozalongo scored the first two goals of his career in William & Mary’s 2-1 overtime win over Elon. In the 68
th minute, Bozalongo curled in a free kick from just outside the top right corner of the penalty area to equalize the match. With just 11 seconds remaining in overtime, Bozalongo blasted a left-footed free kick to the upper left corner of the goal. The brace was the first by a Tribe freshman since Reeves Trott tallied a pair at Campbell on Sept. 10, 2016.
