RICHMOND, Va. (October 7, 2019) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 6 of the 2019 season. Earning honors are Rhode Island junior quarterback Vito Priore, Richmond senior defensive end Maurice Jackson, Villanova junior linebacker Forrest Rhyne, Richmond freshman kicker Jake Larson and New Hampshire freshman linebacker Oleh Manzyk.
CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Vito Priore, Jr., QB, Rhode Island (Atlanta, Ga./Georgia Prep)
Priore completed 31-of-44 passes for 389 yards and three touchdowns as Rhode Island rallied to beat Brown, 31-28, to capture the Governor’s Cup. With his team trailing in the fourth quarter, the junior accounted for all 63 yards in the game-winning drive, capped by a 14-yard scoring pass to Aaron Parker with 5:43 to play. It was Priore’s third 300-yard passing performance and third 3 TD game of the year.
CAA Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Maurice Jackson, Sr., DL, Richmond (Levittown, Pa./Truman)
Jackson contributed six tackles, a career-high 4.0 tackles for loss, a career-best 3.0 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception as Richmond edged UAlbany, 23-20. The senior end returned the interception 27 yards and set up a pivotal Spiders’ touchdown just before halftime. UR held the Great Danes to 14 yards rushing and had seven sacks against a UA team that had allowed just six all season.
CAA Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Forrest Rhyne, Jr., LB, Villanova (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro Area)
Rhyne recorded a career-high 15 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble in Villanova’s 35-28 road win at William & Mary. The 15 tackles were the most by a Villanova player since 2017 and the second-most by a CAA player this season. Rhyne was responsible for 2.5 of the Wildcats’ four sacks and his 3.5 TFL resulted in 25 yards in losses.
CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Jake Larson, Fr., PK, Richmond (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy)
Larson booted three field goals in Richmond’s 23-20 victory over UAlbany. The freshman opened the scoring with a career-long 50-yard field goal, which was the 7
th-longest in UR history. He followed with a 48-yard field goal and a 26-yarder in the second quarter for what proved to be the deciding points. The true freshman is 9-for-10 on field goals for the season and is 11-for-11 on extra points.
CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Oleh Manzyk, Fr., LB, New Hampshire (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy)
Manzyk tallied a career-best eight tackles, a career-high 3.0 sacks and returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown in New Hampshire’s 26-10 triumph over Elon. Manzyk’s pickoff was the first of his career and gave the Wildcats a 13-3 lead in the first quarter. His team-high three sacks were part of six in the game for UNH, which also forced five turnovers and held Elon to 267 total yards.
