William & Mary Captures 20th Straight Title; Hofstra's Masai Wins Individual Title

NEW MARKET, Va. (Nov. 2, 2019) – The William & Mary men took home their 20
th consecutive title at New Market Battlefield on Saturday morning. Hofstra’s Alex Masai captured his second consecutive CAA Cross Country Championship individual title.
William & Mary scored 27 points to capture the crown, its lowest points total since 2017. Northeastern was the runner-up for the seventh straight year with 67 points. The Tribe’s margin of victory was its highest since 2015 when the Tribe defeated the Huskies 21-67. Elon took bronze with 84 points, and Hofstra tallied 112 points to take fourth. College of Charleston and UNCW rounded out the team scoring.
William & Mary had five runners finish in the top 10. JP Trojan, the 2017 CAA Champion, placed second with a time 24:04.4. Evan Goodell, Spencer Tsai, and Cooper Leslie finished in succession, taking fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Patrick Lynch rounded out the Tribe’s scoring runners, finishing in 10
th with a time of 25:19.1.
Hofstra’s Alex Masai once again was named the most outstanding performer after capturing his second consecutive CAA title. The senior posted a time of 23:54.5, just eight seconds off the CAA 8K record set by William & Mary’s Matt Lane in 1999. Masai became Hofstra’s first individual champion last season. Masai was followed by Isa Suleiman in third with a time of 24:40.6. It’s the second consecutive year that the Pride have placed first and third overall.
Northeastern had two runners finish in the top 10. Alexander Korcznyski, who placed sixth last season, placed ninth this year with a time of 25:07.8. He followed Carmeron Dickson, who placed eighth with a time of 25:03.6.
Andrew Miller was Elon’s best finisher, placing seventh with a time of 24:59.0.
