Hofstra's Season Comes to Close in NCAA Second Round

STANFORD, Calif. (November 22, 2019) – Hofstra’s 16-match unbeaten run came to an end in the second round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship, as the Pride fell at top-seeded Stanford, 4-0, at Cagan Stadium.
Hofstra (16-4-2) was making its second consecutive trip to the second round, becoming the first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) program to do so since James Madison in 2007-08. Hofstra’s 16 wins matched the third-most in program history.
Top-seeded Stanford (20-1) struck on their first opportunity at the 2:04 mark, as Madison Haley flicked in a header from the right side to take a 1-0 advantage. Hofstra put together an excellent defensive effort for the remainder of the first half, fending off all 13 of Stanford's opportunities including an excellent defensive play by sophomore Megan Fisher to keep the match within one.
On the offensive end, juniors Sabrina Bryan and Lucy Porter registered the first two shots for the Pride, as the 1-0 Stanford lead carried into halftime.
Shortly after the break, Stanford recorded three goals in a three-minute span to extend the Cardinal lead to 4-0 by the 58
th minute.
Hofstra had a corner kick opportunity at the 61:11 mark, when sophomore Miri Taylor fed in a perfect cross leading up a header attempt by Fisher that was stopped by goalkeeper Katie Meyer.
Hofstra’s Skylar Kuzmich finished her night with a two saves for the Pride. Stanford had the edge in shots, 22-3, and corner kicks 4-3.
Lucy Porter finished her season with 16 goals and 40 points, setting a Hofstra single-season record for points. Teammate Sabrina Bryan posted her second-straight season with 30-plus point, recording 32 via 11 goals and 10 assists.
