CAA Football Weekly Awards - Nov. 4

RICHMOND, Va. (November 4, 2019) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 10 of the 2019 season. Earning honors are Richmond junior quarterback Joe Mancuso, Rhode Island sophomore safety Malik Gavek, Maine senior punter Derek Deoul and New Hampshire freshman quarterback Max Brosmer.
 
CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Joe Mancuso, Jr., QB, Richmond (Blairsville, Ga./Union County)
 
Mancuso accounted for 406 yards of total offense and four touchdowns as Richmond knocked off No. 20 Stony Brook, 30-10, for its fourth straight CAA win. The junior quarterback completed 23-of-30 passes for a season-high 318 yards and 2 TD’s and also ran for a team-best 88 yards and 2 TD’s on 16 carries. The Spiders finished with 470 yards of total offense, which was their most in a CAA game this season.
 
CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Malik Gavek, So., S, Rhode Island (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East)
 
In just his second start, Gavek recorded a career-high 14 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown in Rhode Island’s 42-14 victory over Merrimack. The interception return gave the Rams a 21-7 lead early in the third quarter and both fumble recoveries, one of which he forced, came inside the URI 5-yard line, stopping scoring drives. The 14 tackles match the most by a URI player this season.

CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Derek Deoul, Sr., P, Maine (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville)
 
Deoul averaged 46.2 yards on five punts in Maine’s 47-31 win at UAlbany. The senior had two kicks over 50 yards, including a career-best 66-yarder, and placed three of his five punts inside the 20-yard line. The Great Danes didn’t have any punt return yardage in the game.

CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Max Brosmer, Fr., QB, New Hampshire (Roswell, Ga./Centennial)
 
Brosmer completed 25-of-32 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns as New Hampshire rallied past No. 11 Villanova, 28-20. The freshman set career-highs for completions, yards, TD’s and completion percentage (78.1%) in the win. With UNH trailing 20-7 at the half, Brosmer went 10-for-10 for 132 yards in the second half, including scoring passes of 31 and 21 yards to Dylan Laube that put the Wildcats on top.
