CAA Volleyball Weekly Awards - Nov. 4
RICHMOND, Va. (Nov. 4, 2019) – Towson’s Olivia Finckel was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Offensive Player of the Week, while William & Mary’s Julia Brown collected CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors. Northeastern’s Erica Staunton earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Olivia Finckel, Towson
Senior | Opposite | Baltimore, Md./Dulaney
Finckel had a great week, leading Towson to a 2-0 week with wins over James Madison (3-1) on Friday and Delaware (3-0) on Sunday. Towson secured a bye for the upcoming CAA Tournament with the pair of wins. For the week, Finckel batted down 32 kills, averaging 4.57 per set. She hit for .391 in the seven sets against teams ranked number two (JMU) and four (UD) in opponent hitting percentage. Finckel added five digs and eight blocks (1.14) to her week as well as Towson remained unbeaten in league play at 12-0.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Julia Brown, William & Mary
Junior | Middle Blocker | Geneva, Ill.
Brown racked up 21 blocks in just 15 sets of action over the past week and finished with 40 kills and a .559 hitting percentage. The junior downed three in a pair of three-set matches at Northeastern and Elon before sending back a career-high 10 blocks in a win over Charleston. Brown finished the week with five blocks against UNCW.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Erica Staunton, Northeastern
Freshman | Outside Hitter | Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg
Staunton averaged 3.00 kills per set during Northeastern's 1-1 week against the CAA. She combined to hit .429 during the week and landed eight kills on 11 attacks (one error) during the Huskies' straight-set win against William & Mary. She then connected on 13 kills (two errors) against Hofstra.
