KANSAS CITY, Mo. (December 9, 2019) – Nine Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) men’s soccer players earned All-Atlantic Region recognition by the United Soccer Coaches, the organization announced on Monday.
After earning the program’s second consecutive NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament appearance, James Madison placed three players –
Manuel Ferriol,
Thomas Judge and
Fernando Casero - on the teams, with Ferriol and Judge earning first team honors.
UNCW led all CAA programs with four picks.
Phillip Goodrum,
Gabriel Cabral and
Danny Reynolds all collected first team accolades, while
Mark Lindstrom was a second team selection.
Chris Donovan represented Drexel on the second team, while Hofstra’s
Matthew Vowinkel earned second-team honors as well.
Ferriol, Judge and Casero were all First Team All-CAA selections in 2019, with Ferriol garnering CAA Player of the Year accolades. Ferriol’s 37 points and 16 points set James Madison single-season records while he recorded six multi-point efforts in 2019.
Casero, from his defensive midfield spot, combined with Judge in defense to help anchor a James Madison defense that allowed just 22 goals in 21 matches.
Goodrum earned First Team All-CAA honors for the third straight season after an 11-goal, 26-point effort. In his first season with the Seahawks, Cabral recorded nine points in earning First Team All-CAA honors, while Reynolds was tabbed the CAA Defensive Player of the Year after helping the Seahawks to the first unbeaten conference record in the CAA since 2009.
Lindstrom, a Second Team All-Atlantic pick, earned his second straight First Team All-CAA selection after helping lead a UNCW defense that allowed just seven goals in conference play.
In his sophomore season, Donovan’s team-leading seven goals more than doubled his output from his freshman season and ranked fourth in the CAA. Vowinkel’s 13 goals were the most for a Hofstra player since 2005. Both were First Team All-CAA selections in 2019.
