Boggs, Defense Lead William & Mary Into CAA Quarterfinals

NEWARK, Del. (March 13, 2019) – Bianca Boggs led William & Mary with a 23-point, 10-rebound double-double as the Tribe defeated Charleston, 61-41, in the opening round of the 2019 CAA Women’s Basketball Championship.
No. 7 William & Mary (15-15) advances to Thursday’s 5 p.m. quarterfinal and will face the No. 2 seed, Drexel. No. 10 Charleston falls to 7-23 on the season.
Eva Hodgson fueled the Tribe offense early, scoring two early threes to put William & Mary up by six just four minutes into the game. In the second quarter, Bailey Eichner and Gabby Rogers scored back-to-back layups to spark a 10-0 Tribe run to push their lead to 13.
William & Mary’s defense held Charleston to 28.6 percent shooting (8-for-28) in the first half and allowed just seven points in the second quarter. The Cougars were also 0-for-5 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes. For the game, William & Mary limited Charleston to 29.3-percent shooting on 17-of-58 attempts.
Leading 31-19 to start the third quarter, the Tribe opened the second half on 16-5 run to push its lead to 22 points as Boggs scored 11 of her 23 points in the frame. William & Mary extended its lead to as many as 27 points in the fourth.
