RICHMOND, Va. (April 27, 2019) – Three CAA Football players were selected in the 2019 NFL Draft, marking the 14
th consecutive year that the conference has had multiple players chosen.
Delaware safety
Nasir Adderley was selected in the second round (60
th overall) by the Los Angeles Chargers. Elon offensive tackle
Oli Udoh was taken in the sixth round (193
rd overall) by the Minnesota Vikings. James Madison cornerback
Jimmy Moreland was chosen in the seventh round (227
th overall) by the Washington Redskins.
Adderley becomes the highest Blue Hen drafted since quarterback Joe Flacco was selected 17
thoverall in 2007. It’s the second time in the past three years that CAA Football has had a player chosen in the second round, joining Villanova defensive lineman Tanoh Kpassagnon in 2017.
Adderley was a four-year starter for the Blue Hens, becoming the first player in over 10 years to start every game of his career at Delaware. He racked up 264 total tackles to rank among the top-five in defensive backs in program history in that category. He also added 11 INTs and 24 pass deflections in his career.
Last season, he earned first-team All-America honors after recording 87 tackles, four interceptions and seven pass breakups. He’s a two-time first-team All-CAA selection and earned third-team all-conference accolades in 2016.
Udoh is the third Elon player to be drafted since the program moved to the Division I level. In 2018, he was named a first-team All-CAA selection while earning All-America accolades from Phil Steele, STATS and HERO Sports.
He started all 45 games the team has played over the course of the last four years. Last season, Udoh helped Elon amass a season average of 199.5 yards per game on the ground to finish second in the conference in the category. He also blocked for a running game that scored 22 of the team's 31 touchdowns on the season. Udoh also played a big role in keeping the quarterback upright with the offensive line allowing just 16 sacks on the season.
Moreland became the first JMU player to be chosen in the draft since 2013. He was a consensus All-America honoree and received CAA Defensive Player of the Year accolades after leading the conference with five interceptions, including three that were returned for touchdowns, setting a league record.
Moreland is JMU's all-time leader with 18 career interceptions and posted a program- and CAA-record six pick-sixes. Moreland tallied a JMU single-season record 217 interception return yards and also ranked in the top 10 nationally with 15 passes defended this past fall.
In 13 starts at corner, he registered 56 total tackles to go with 7.5 for loss, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one recovery, 10 pass breakups and a blocked punt. Moreland finished just one interception and one pick-six shy of the FCS career record.
CAA Football and the Missouri Valley Football Conference led FCS with three players selected. There were 13 total FCS players chosen in this year's draft.
