RICHMOND, Va. (July 30, 2019) – The Colonial Athletic Association has nominated Hofstra women’s basketball alumna Boogie Brozoski and William & Mary swimming alumna Claire Williams for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year award.

The NCAA Woman of the Year Award, established in 1991 and now in its 29th year, honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership. Brozoski and Williams are among 149 conference-level honorees from across all three NCAA divisions being considered by the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee for the field of the top-30 honorees (10 per division). From this pool, the committee will determine the top three honorees from each division and will announce nine finalists in September, before the overall winner is chosen at a ceremony on October 20 in Indianapolis.

A community health major who concluded her undergraduate career with a 3.85 grade point average, Brozoski scored 1,030 career points between her time at Michigan and Hofstra.  She was a six-time Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll recipient and the 2018-19 CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year in women's basketball. In addition, she earned Dean's List recognition in all six of her semesters at Hofstra.

This past season, Brozoski led Hofstra and ranked fifth in the conference with 16.2 points per game, while adding 4.0 rebounds and a team-high 3.9 assists per outing. She drained 56 three-pointers this season as well. In the first round of the CAA Championship, Brozoski poured in a Hofstra and CAA Championship record 42 points as the Pride would go on to advance to the semifinals, becoming the first team to knock off the number one seed in the quarterfinals.

Williams was selected as the 2018-19 CAA Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She graduated with a double major in psychology and hispanic studies while sporting a 3.95 GPA.

Williams was a four-time recipient of the W&M Provosts' Award (GPA over 3.5) and Monroe Scholar, and also served as the swimming representative for W&M's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  Williams volunteered with Camp Kesem since 2016, an annual summer camp for children whose parents are fighting cancer, serving as a member of the executive board for training and fundraising each of the last two years in addition to counseling at the camp every summer.

Williams placed fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.90) and 10th in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.56) at the 2019 CAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship, helping the Tribe earn a second-place team finish.  She received all-conference accolades in 2017 following a second-place performance in the 200 breast at the CAA Championship and has been a finalist at the conference meet eight times in her career across her three events (200 breast, 100 breast and 200 IM). The Tribe won two CAA team titles during her career and finished runner-up the other two years. Williams was an NCAA provisional qualifier in the 200 breast in 2017, breaking the W&M school record that had stood since 2002, and in 2016 set the still-standing record in the 100m breast in a summer long-course meet.

Brozoski and Williams were in the initial group of five women nominated by the CAA’s member institutions and the 585 women nominated across the nation, which was the most nominated in the award’s 29-year history. William & Mary’s Bianca Boggs (women’s basketball), Towson’s Emily Wilson (swimming & diving), and Delaware’s Michaela Scanlon (field hockey) were included in that initial group.
