CAA Men's Soccer Weekly Awards - Sept. 16

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 16, 2019) – Northeastern sophomore midfielder Ryan Massoud has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while William & Mary’s Kieran Baskett earned Defensive Player of the Week and James Madison forward Dennis Mensah garnered CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Ryan Massoud, Northeastern
Sophomore | Midfielder | Arnprior, Ontario/Anrprior District
Massoud netted three goals in a 1-0-1 week for Northeastern. The sophomore netted the first goal of the match in an eventual 2-1 win at UMass-Lowell before posting a brace in the Huskies’ 2-2 CAA-opening draw with Delaware. Massoud's brace was the first by a Husky since the Arnprior, Ontario-native scored two goals on Aug. 24, 2018.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Kieran Baskett, William & Mary
Freshman | Goalkeeper | Halifax, Nova Scotia/McDonogh (Md.)
Baskett posted a 0.82 GAA with 18 saves during an 0-0-2 week for William & Mary in which the Tribe drew with No. RV/24 N.C. State and UNCW. Against N.C. State, Baskett tallied seven saves, including a couple of crucial point-blank attempts. Baskett’s 11 saves in a 1-1 draw with UNCW marked the most for a W&M goalkeeper since 1998 and are the most in the CAA since 2016.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Dennis Mensah, James Madison
Freshman | Forward | Alexandria, Va./Bethesda SC Development Academy
Mensah had a career night for the Dukes on Saturday, collecting a hat trick within the span of 10 minutes in James Madison’s 6-0 win at Elon. The freshman’s first goal of the match came in the 31st minute on a scissor kick, with his second and third goals coming in short order. Mensah's three goals and six points led the Dukes in both categories as JMU improved to 2-0-0 in CAA play.
