CAA Men's Soccer Weekly Awards - Sept. 2
RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 2, 2019) – Elon sophomore midfielder
Christian Lauenborg has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Hofstra’s
Alex Ashton earned Defensive Player of the Week and Pride defender
Frederik Rieper garnered CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Christian Lauenborg, Elon
Sophomore | Midfielder | Risskov Gymnasium
Lauenborg tallied five points as Elon started the season 1-0-1. In the Phoenix’ 3-2 comeback win over CSU Bakersfield, Laudenborg notched the game-tying goal in the 72
nd minute. Against Furman team receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll, Lauenborg added a penalty kick goal and an assist to collect All-Tournament Team honors at the John Rennie/Nike Invitational at Duke University.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Alex Ashton, Hofstra
Graduate | Goalkeeper | Telford, England/Thomas Telford
Ashton picked up where he left off last season, recording two shutouts in Hofstra’s wins over Fordham and at UMBC. Ashton turned in six saves in the Pride’s season-opening win over Fordham before making a single save against UMBC. With 16 career shutouts, Ashton moved into a tie for third place on the Hofstra all-time list.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Frederik Rieper, Hofstra
Freshman | Defense | Aarhus, Denmark/Marselisborg Gymnasium
In Hofstra’s 1-0 win at UMBC, Rieper tallied the game’s lone goal in the 57
th minute off a corner kick. Starting at center back for the Pride, Rieper played a key role in a pair of shutout victories.
