CAA Men's Soccer Weekly Awards - Sept. 23

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 23, 2019) – James Madison senior midfielder Manuel Ferriol has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while JMU’s TJ Bush earned Defensive Player of the Week and Northeastern midfielder Liam Murphy garnered CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Manuel Ferriol, James Madison
Senior | Midfielder | Valencia, Spain/Levante UD
In a 2-0 week for James Madison, Ferriol accounted for all four of the Dukes’ goals. Against No. 1 Wake Forest, Ferriol’s 51st-minute tally lifted JMU to a 1-0 win on Tuesday. The senior followed up the effort with a hat trick in JMU’s 3-0 victory over Mount St. Mary’s. Ferriol has scored seven of JMU’s 15 goals during the team’s five-match winning streak.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
TJ Bush, James Madison
Junior | Goalkeeper | Herndon, Va./South Lakes
Bush did not allow a goal across 158 minutes in James Madison’s 2-0 week. The junior made a career-high seven saves as the Dukes took down No. 1 Wake Forest, 1-0. Among Bush’s seven saves was a penalty kick save in the 76th minute to preserve the lead. Bush played 68 minutes in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Mount St. Mary’s, turning in one save.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Liam Murphy, Northeastern
Freshman | Midfielder | Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay
Murphy helped Northeastern to a 2-0 week, playing a role in two of the Huskies’ goals. In Saturday’s comeback win over Charleston, Murphy tied the match at 2-2 with his first career goal. Four minutes after equalizing, Murphy’s cross found its way into the net for an own goal that gave Northeastern the lead.
