RICHMOND, Va. (September 30, 2019) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 5 of the 2019 season. Earning honors are Stony Brook junior quarterback Tyquell Fields, Delaware sophomore linebacker Drew Nickles, UAlbany junior kicker Dylan Burns and James Madison freshman running back Solomon Vanhorse.
CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Tyquell Fields, Jr., QB, Stony Brook (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac)
Fields accounted for 284 yards of total offense and two touchdowns in Stony Brook’s 31-27 victory at Rhode Island. The junior quarterback completed 15-of-31 passes for 199 yards and a TD and rushed for 85 yards and a score on 10 carries. His night was highlighted by scrambling 50 yards for the game-winning TD on a 4
th-and-6 play with just 11 seconds remaining.
CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Drew Nickles, So., LB, Delaware (Upper Black Eddy, Pa./Palisades)
Nickles recorded a career-high 12 tackles and forced and recovered a fumble in Delaware’s narrow 17-14 setback at ACC member Pitt. The sophomore linebacker’s forced fumble in the third quarter led to a Blue Hens’ touchdown, giving them a 14-10 lead that they maintained into the fourth period. Nine of Nickles’ 12 stops in the contest were unassisted.
CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Dylan Burns, Jr., PK, UAlbany (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge)
Burns set a UAlbany program record by booting four field goals in the Great Danes’ 39-31 triumph over William & Mary. The junior was a perfect 4-for-4 in the game, converting kicks from 43, 42, 25 and 27 yards. The 43-yarder was a career-best for Burns, who is 6-for-8 on field goals for the season.
CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Solomon Vanhorse, Fr., RB, James Madison (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton)
Vanhorse rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries in James Madison’s 45-10 road victory at Elon. The freshman found the end zone from six yards out on the Dukes’ first drive of the game and then added another score in the second quarter to extend JMU’s lead to 21-7. Vanhorse was part of a Dukes’ rushing attack that piled up 336 yards. He averaged 5.7 yards per carry.
