CAA Men's Soccer Weekly Awards - Sept. 30
RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 30, 2019) – James Madison senior midfielder
Manuel Ferriol has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while William & Mary's
Sam Golan earned Defensive Player of the Week and Tribe midfielder
Nathan Messer garnered CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Manuel Ferriol, James Madison
Senior | Midfielder | Valencia, Spain/Levante UD
In a 2-0 week for James Madison, Ferriol played a role in three of four Dukes' goals. In a mid-week match at Longwood, Ferriol scored in the 90
th minute to push JMU to a 1-0 win in Farmville, Va. On Saturday, Ferriol assisted on the first and third goals of the match for the Dukes in a 3-1 victory over Drexel. The victories pushed James Madison's winning streak to seven matches. The accolade is the second straight for Ferriol.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Sam Golan, William & Mary
Junior | Defender | Great Falls, Va./Langley
Golan keyed a William & Mary defense, playing all 180 miutes as the Tribe posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since Oct. 2017. In the Tribe's 2-0 win at Charleston, Golan posted his first career game with a goal and an assist. The junior assisted on the game-winning goal in the 54
th minute before heading in a goal seven minutes later to secure the road win.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Nathan Messer, William & Mary
Freshman | Midfielder | Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase
Messer helped William & Mary to a 2-0 week, posting three points as the Tribe defeated Loyola Maryland and Charleston. In a mid-week win over Loyola (Md.), Messer made his first career start and assisted on the eventual game-winning goal in the 58
th minute of a 2-0 victory. On Saturday night, Messer's first career goal came in the 54
th minute and led the Tribe to a 2-0 road win in CAA action.
