Delaware 44, Rhode Island 36 (3ot)

Pat Kehoe passed for 282 yards and five touchdowns, including a 1-yard toss to Will Knight in the third overtime, as Delaware (2-0, 1-0 CAA) pulled out a wild 44-36 triple-overtime victory at Rhode Island in the CAA opener for both teams. The Rams (0-2, 0-1) built a 13-0 halftime lead, but Kehoe threw TD passes of 66 yards to Chichi Amachi and 21 yards to Bryce De Maille to put the Hens up 14-13 at the end of three quarters. Rhody moved back in front, 19-14, on a 24-yard scoring pass from Vito Priore to Aaron Parker with 8:16 remaining. The Hens regained the lead, 22-19, on Kehoe's 1-yard TD pass to Owen Tyler with 1:19 to go in regulation, but the Rams forced overtime when C.J. Carrick nailed a career-long 44-yard field goal with 19 seconds left. Both teams scored touchdowns on their first two overtime possessions before Kehoe hit Knight in the third OT and the Hens added a 2-point conversion. Rhode Island drove to the UD 3-yard line before Justis Henley intercepted a pass to end the game. Delaware got 111 yards and a TD on the ground from Andre Robinson. For URI, Priore passed for a career-high 430 yards and three touchdowns with Parker making 12 receptions for 227 yards.

Holy Cross 13, New Hampshire 10

Despite an outstanding effort from its defense, New Hampshire (0-1) dropped a tough 13-10 decision at Holy Cross. The Wildcats took their first lead of the game with 6:52 to play as Carlos Washington, Jr. scored on a 19-yard touchdown run that made it 10-6. UNH appeared to have the contest in hand after stopping a Holy Cross drive at the 2-yard line with two minutes remaining. However, the Crusaders forced a fumble on the next play and recovered it in the end zone for the winning score. Washington finished with a team-high 107 yards rushing on 18 carries. Pop Bush recorded a team-high nine tackles for a UNH defense that held Holy Cross to 315 total yards and a pair of field goals.

Elon 35, The Citadel 28

Highlights


Brelynd Cyphers' 30-yard touchdown run with 6:07 to play lifted Elon (1-1) to a 35-28 victory over The Citadel. The Phoenix had taken a 28-14 advantage late in the third quarter on Jaylan Thomas' second scoring run of the game, but the Bulldogs battled back to tie the contest at 28-28 with 9:10 left. The Phoenix answered with a 7-play, 75-yard drive capped by Cyphers run and then held on from there. Thomas finished with 135 yards and 2 TD's on 20 carries while Cyphers added 80 yards on 13 attempts. Elon quarterback Davis Cheek completed 14-of-23 passes for 226 yards, including a 27-yard TD strike to Kortez Weeks. Marcus Willoughby paced the Elon defense with 14 tackles, 2.0 TFL and a sack.

Boston College 45, Richmond 13

Highlights

Richmond (0-1) rushed for 215 yards, but was unable to overcome an early deficit in a 45-13 setback at ACC foe Boston College. The Spiders fell behind 21-0 at the end of the first quarter, but got on the board early in the second period as Joe Mancuso connected on a 35-yard TD pass to Keyston Fuller. The Eagles responded with two more touchdowns before the half and UR managed only a pair of Jake Larson field goals (36 and 45 yards) the rest of the way. Mancuso rushed for a team-high 70 yards on 10 carries and completed 11-of-17 passes for 124 yards. Freshman Savon Smith added a career-high 66 yards on 10 fourth-quarter carries. Trent Williams and Daniel Jones each made 10 tackles defensively.

Villanova 38, Lehigh 10

Quarterback Daniel Smith threw for 172 yards and three touchdowns as Villanova improved to 2-0 with a 38-10 victory over Lehigh. Running back Justin Covington contributed 109 yards rushing on only eight carries, including a 16-yard TD run early in the third quarter that extended VU's lead to 24-10. Smith followed with TD passes of 13 yards to Todd Summers and 12 yards to Dez Boykin to put the game away. Defensively, Forrest Rhyne and Amin Black each registered 10 tackles, while Elijah Trent returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown.

Towson 42, North Carolina Central 3

Tom Flacco passed for 228 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for a 17-yard score as Towson (2-0) rolled past North Carolina Central, 42-3, in its home opener. The Tigers scored 14 points in each of the first three quarters and were dominant throughout. Shane Simpson added 89 yards rushing on just 12 carries and Shane Leatherbury caught TD passes of 11 and 21 yards. Towson's defense pitched a shutout for the first three quarters. Robert Heyward made a team-best 10 tackles and Christian Dixon had nine stops, including two for loss. Keon Paye returned an interception 38 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.

James Madison 44, St. Francis (Pa.) 7

James Madison (1-1) piled up 533 yards of total offense in a 44-7 victory over St. Francis (Pa.) in its home opener. The Dukes opened up a 37-0 advantage after three quarters and were in control from the outset. Quarterback Ben DiNucci was 16-of-21 passing for 221 yards and two touchdowns and added 51 yards on the ground. JMU generated 295 yards rushing, with freshman Solomon Vanhorse picking up a team-high 86 yards and 2 TD's on 14 carries. The Dukes' defense held St. Francis to 175 total yards and didn't give up a point until the final 10 minutes. Sam Kidd recorded a team-high seven stops. 

Georgia Southern 26, Maine 18

Highlights

Maine (1-1) nearly overcame a 20-point deficit, but fell 26-18 at Georgia Southern. The Black Bears trailed 23-3 early in the fourth quarter but pulled closer on a 21-yard TD pass from receiver Earnest Edwards to Devin Young. After GSU tacked on another field goal, Jaquan Blair caught a 46-yard TD pass from Chris Ferguson and the same duo hooked up for a two-point conversion to make it 26-18 with 2:19 remaining. However, a Maine onsides kick was unsuccessful and GSU drained the rest of the clock. Ferguson finished 23-of-47 passing for 286 yards, with Blair making five catches for 78 yards. Joshua Huffman, Taji Lowe and Charles Mitchell each made seven tackles for the Black Bears.

UAlbany 45, Bryant 3

Alex James ran for a career-high 229 yards and a TD on just 12 carries as UAlbany (1-1) cruised past Bryant, 45-3, in its home opener. The Great Danes finished with 362 yards rushing as Karl Mofor added 123 yards on the ground. James got the scoring started by breaking loose on an 80-yard TD run in the first quarter. Quarterback Jeff Undercuffler contributed a pair of TD passes to Jerah Reeves and LJ Wesneski in the second quarter and had a 9-yard TD run in the third period. The Great Danes forced three turnovers, with Jarren Williams returning an interception 63 yards for a score. Levi Metheny made a team-high 12 tackles.

Utah State 62, Stony Brook 7

Utah State quarterback Jordan Love threw for 294 yards and Jaylen Warren ran for 105 yards and 2 TD's as the Aggies topped Stony Brook (1-1), 62-7. The Seawolves trailed 41-0 in the third quarter, but got on the board as Jack Cassidy threw a 3-yard TD pass to Isaiah White, capping a 14-play, 75-yard drive that took over six minutes. Cassidy passed for 129 yards, with Nick Anderson making six catches.
