CAA Men's Soccer Weekly Awards - Sept. 9

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 9, 2019) – James Madison sophomore midfielder Tyler Clegg has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Delaware’s Renan Thomazo earned Defensive Player of the Week and UNCW goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta garnered CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Tyler Clegg, James Madison
Sophomore | Midfielder | Manassas, Va./Forest Park
Coming off the bench in both of James Madison’s wins, Clegg notched three points behind a goal and an assist. In the Dukes’ 2-0 victory over Hofstra to open CAA play, Clegg tallied an assist on JMU’s second goal to help clinch the result. On Sunday, Clegg’s goal in the 105th minute gave the Dukes a 3-2 win over Loyola (Md.).
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Renan Thomazo, Delaware
Sophomore | Goalkeeper | Metz, France
Thomazo turned in five saves to help lead Delaware to a 1-0 victory over No. 23/25 West Virginia on Monday. All five of Thomazo’s saves came in the second half, including one on a penalty kick in the 69th minute.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Gabriel Perrotta, UNCW
Freshman | Goalkeeper | Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Internacional
Making his collegiate debut, Perrotta helped UNCW to a 3-0 victory at Radford. In his first career shutout, Perrotta turned aside both shots on goal he faced and anchored a defensive unit which surrendered just three shots to the Highlanders.
