William & Mary 88, Hofstra 61
William & Mary collected its sixth road win of the season in emphatic fashion, rolling to an 88-61 win at Hofstra on Thursday night.
Nathan Knight recorded 15 points and 12 rebounds to record his NCAA-best 11
th double-double of the season for William & Mary (10-5, 2-0 CAA). Andy Van Vliet had 18 points for William & Mary, while Luke Loewe added 12 points. Tyler Hamilton had six rebounds for the visitors.
William & Mary dominated the first half and led 45-23 at the break. The Pride's 23 points in the first half marked a season low for the team.
Eli Pemberton had 15 points for Hofstra (11-5, 2-1), whose five-game win streak came to end. Jalen Ray added 11 points. Isaac Kante had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The win on the road was the sixth of the season for the Tribe, which is the best in the NCAA.
James Madison 64, UNCW 60
Matt Lewis racked up 15 points on Thursday evening, including a crucial jumper with 1:22 to play, as James Madison battled its way to a hard-fought 64-60 victory over UNCW in CAA action at Trask Coliseum.
James Madison (8-6, 1-2 CAA) had three players score in double figures, led by Lewis, who had 15 points and two steals. Sophomore guard Deshon Parker added 13 points and two steals, while junior forward Dwight Wilson helped out with his sixth double-double in seven games, racking up 11 points and matching his season high with 15 rebounds.
On the evening, JMU used a 39-32 rebounding advantage to repel repeated counter-attacks from UNCW (5-11, 0-3 CAA), holding the Seahawks to 39-percent (23-of-59) shooting for the game, a mark that included an impressive 27.6-percent (8-of-29) clip in the opening half.
Sophomore forward Marten Linssen carded a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double to lead the way for UNCW.
Leading 63-60 with 6 seconds left, Darius Banks got the rebound off of Shykeim Phillips' missed free throw and was fouled. He made one of two from the line for the final score.
Jaylen Sims scored 15 points with seven rebounds for UNCW, while Mike Okauru added 11 points. Phillips had seven points and five assists.
Northeastern 77, Elon 68
Freshman Tyson Walker erupted for a career-high 32 points to carry Northeastern past Elon, 77-58, in the Huskies’ home conference opener on Thursday.
Northeastern (9-6, 3-0 CAA) pushed its home court winning streak to eight games in CAA play, while Elon (4-11, 0-2 CAA) fell in its first conference road game.
Bolden Brace added 10 points to round out double-figure scorers for the Huskies. Northeastern hit 9-of-20 3-point field goals and went 12-for-15 from the free-throw line.
The Huskies led by as many as 14 points early in the second half, but the 3-point shooting from Elon brought the Phoenix within two, 68-66, with 2:26 remaining in the game after a Simon Wright triple.
Walker had the answer all night long for Northeastern, making a pair of jumpers to lead an 8-0 run as the Huskies went back up by double digits, 76-66 with just 24 seconds left to hold off Elon's comeback try.
Marcus Sheffield II led a trio of Elon players in double figures with 19. Hunter McIntosh finished with 17 and Hunter Woods added 12.
Charleston 81, Towson 69
Grant Riller scored 28 points with eight rebounds and Charleston beat Towson 81-69 on Thursday night to start CAA play 3-0 for the first time since 2016-17.
Sam Miller added 16 points with nine boards and Zep Jasper made all 10 of his free throw attempts and scored 12 points for Charleston (7-8, 3-0 CAA), who committed just two turnovers in winning their fourth straight. Brevin Galloway scored 11 points and Jaylen McManus added 10 as Charleston put five players into double figures.
With his 28 points, Riller moved to 2,110 for his career, just seven from 12
th place in CAA history.
Both Nakye Sanders and Allen Bertrand posted career highs for Towson (6-9, 0-3 CAA). Sanders posted 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Bertrand notched 19 points. Brian Fobbs had 12 points for the Tigers.
