Delaware 73, Hofstra 71
Kevin Anderson’s layup with 0.3 seconds to play pushed Delaware past Hofstra, 73-71, at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex on Thursday night.
 
Anderson’s coast-to-coast drive capped a wild five minutes that saw six lead changes down the stretch before Delaware (14-7, 4-4 CAA) even its CAA record.
 
Prior to Anderson’s basket, Jaylen Ray tied the game for Hofstra (14-7, 5-3 CAA) with two free throws with just over six seconds remaining in regulation.
 


With 18 seconds left, Justyn Mutts capped a career evening by corralling an errant Blue Hen shot and converting the offensive rebound to make it a 71-69 lead. Mutts finished the evening with a career-high 30 points and 13 rebounds.
 
Dylan Painter joined Mutts with a 15-point, 12-rebound effort, while Anderson had 15 points. Nate Darling made it four Blue Hens in double figures with 11 points.
 
Hofstra was led by Desure Buie’s 19 points, while Isaac Kante was a rebound shy of a double-double with 16 points and nine boards. Both Eli Pemberton and Ray had 11 points for the Pride.
 
Northeastern 85, Drexel 52
Northeastern raced out to an 18-3 lead and never looked back in an eventual 85-52 victory over visiting Drexel at Matthews Arena.
 
Northeastern (11-9, 5-3 CAA) moved into a tie with Drexel (12-9, 5-3 CAA) in the conference standings, along with Hofstra and Towson.

 

The Huskies shot 55.2-percent for the game, including a 9-of-17 mark from 3-point range.
 
Jordan Roland and Bolden Brace led the way for Northeastern, combining for 43 points on 17-of-28 shooting and a 7-for-12 effort from 3-point range. Roland finished with 26 points in 28 minutes, while Brace, who was honored pregame for joining Northeastern’s 1,000-point club, recorded 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting.
 
Northeastern led, 49-17, at the half and was up by as many as 36 points in the second half.
 
James Butler led Drexel with 16 points, while Coletrane Washington came off the bench to record 11.
 
William & Mary 88, James Madison 75
William & Mary never trailed in its return to Kaplan Arena, knocking off in-state rival James Madison, 88-75, on Thursday night.
 
William & Mary (15-6, 7-1 CAA) remained atop the CAA standings by one game as three players – Andy Van Vliet, Nathan Knight and Luke Loewe – finished in double figures for the Tribe.

 

Consecutive 3-pointers from Loewe and Van Vliet helped the Tribe push an early 24-16 lead to 14 points midway through the 1st half as William & Mary would push its edge to 18, 45-27, before taking a 14-point lead into the break.
 
The lead would grow to as many as 28 points in the second half after Van Vliet knocked down a jumper with 13:40 remaining in the game.
 
James Madison (8-11, 1-7 CAA) would make a late run, but dropped its fifth straight game.
 
Van Vliet finished with a team-high 22 points, while Knight posted his NCAA-leading 16th double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Loewe added 18 for William & Mary.
 
Darius Banks led all scorers with 24 points for JMU, with Matt Lewis chipping in 22. Darius Parker rounded out the trio of Dukes in double figures with 14.
 
Towson 72, Elon 61
Towson collected its fifth straight win in CAA play, rallying for a 72-61 win at Elon on Thursday night.
 
Towson (11-9, 5-3 CAA) trailed, 53-51, with 4:52 to play, but Juwan Gray converted a 3-pointer before hitting two free throws on the next possession to put the Tigers ahead by three, 56-53, with 4:26 remaining.
 
Brian Fobbs and Jason Gibson would hit 3-pointers on subsequent possessions to push the Tigers’ lead to nine, 62-53, with 2:53 to play.

 

Previously, Elon built a 5-point lead, 49-44, after a 9-0 run was capped by Zac Ervin’s 3-pointer with 7:53 on the clock.
 
Fobbs recorded his third game in the last four with 20 or more points, finishing with a game-high 20. Gibson added 13 for Towson, while Allen Betrand chipped in 10 points.
 
Elon (5-16, 1-7 CAA) was led by Marcus Sheffield II and Hunter Woods, each of whom posted 15 points. Ervin added 14 for the Phoenix.
