Charleston 87, James Madison 68
Grant Riller scored 36 points to lead Charleston past James Madison, 87-68, at the Convocation Center on Thursday night.
 
Charleston (13-9, 7-3 CAA) started off the game slow, but a 14-0 run late in the first half sent the Cougars into the halftime with a 40-37 on James Madison (8-13, 1-9 CAA).

 

Riller had 16 points in the first half before erupting early in the second half – scoring eight points in a 1:22 stretch as Charleston extended its lead to 48-39 just 2:26 into the half.
 
James Madison would whittle the deficit to five on a Darius Banks 3-pointer midway through the half, but a layup from Riller and 3-point play from Brevin Galloway pushed the lead back into double figures where it remained the remainder of the game.
 
With his 36 points, Riller climbed into sixth place on the CAA career scoring list with 2,280 points. The senior hit 6-of-7 3-pointers, going 11-of-17 from the field.
 
Galloway added 13 points, while Zep Jasper scored all 12 of his points in the second half.
 
Matt Lewis led James Madison with 22 points, while Dwight Wilson recorded a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Banks chipped in 12 points.
 
William & Mary 59, Northeastern 58
Nathan Knight drove the length of the court to hit the game-winning layup with 1.5 seconds to play as William & Mary defeated Northeastern, 59-58, at Kaplan Arena.
 
William & Mary (16-7, 8-2 CAA) remained atop the CAA with the win. Knight posted his 17th double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
 


After Tyson Walker split a pair of free throws to give Northeastern (11-11, 5-5 CAA) a 57-52 lead with 2:27 remaining, William & Mary cut into the lead on a Luke Loewe 3-pointer.
 
On the Tribe’s next possession, Knight was fouled and hit both free throws to tie the game with 1:25 to play.
 
Neither team was able to take the lead until Bolden Brace hit the second of two free throws with six seconds left to give Northeastern a 57-56 edge, setting the stage for Knight’s game-winner, which was the last of seven lead changes in the second half.
 
Quinn Blair joined Knight in double figures with 11 points, while Andy Van Vliet had 12 rebounds.
 
Jordan Roland led all scorers with 18 points, while Max Boursiquot added 12 and Tyson Walker 10. Northeastern’s five CAA losses have come by a combined nine points.
 
Towson 77, UNCW 66
Towson nearly led wire-to-wire in collecting its seventh-straight victory, 77-66, over visiting UNCW, at SECU Arena.
 
Towson (13-9, 7-3 CAA) was led by Brian Fobbs’ 14 points, while Nakye Sanders posted a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double.


 
The Tigers built a lead on the strength of its 3-point shooting as they hit triples on four straight possessions early in the first half to build an early 16-7 lead after Jakigh Dottin’s second 3-pointer of the afternoon.
 
Towson would push its lead to 14, 39-35, on a Dennis Tunstall 3-pointer, helping the Tigers take an eventual 40-30 advantage into the half.
 
UNCW (7-16, 2-8 CAA) came out of the locker room strong, closing within 44-42 on a Ty Gadsden 3-pointer 3:16 into the half. The Seahawks would trail, 49-46, before Juwan Gray doubled Towson’s lead on the next possession.
 
Towson would not allow UNCW to close within a single possession the remainder of the game.
 
Gray made it a trio of Tigers in double figures, finishing with 10 points. Jaylen Sims led all scorers with 16 points, while Marten Linssen had 12 for UNCW. Gadsden added 11.
 
Hofstra 86, Elon 63
Eli Pemberton led four Hofstra players in double figures with 26 points as the Pride collected an 86-63 win at Elon on Thursday night.
 
Hofstra (16-7, 7-3 CAA) collected its eighth road win of the season, matching William & Mary and Stephen F. Austin for the most in the nation.


 
The Pride shot 52.6-percent in the game, with Desure Buie going 7-for-10 en route to an 18-point, 11-assist double-double. Isaac Kante added 16 for Hofstra, while Jalen Ray chipped in 14 behind a 4-for-6 effort from 3-point range.
 
Pemberton was 5-of-8 from 3-point range and 9-for-15 from the field, scoring 15 of his points in the second half. The senior had 3’s on back-to-back possessions midway through the half as the Pride pushed a 52-44 lead to 63-47 in a 2:19 span.
 
Marcus Sheffield II had a team-high 21 points to lead Elon (6-17, 2-8 CAA), while Hunter Woods added 16.
