Charleston 73, Elon 65
Grant Riller had 30 points as Charleston defeated Elon 73-65 on Thursday night at the Schar Center.
Riller converted all 11 of his foul shots and added seven rebounds as he reached the 30-point mark for the second straight game. With his 30 points, Riller moved into eighth place on the CAA career scoring list with 2,181 points, passing William & Mary’s Marcus Thornton (2,178) and Kenny Sanders (2,177) of George Mason.
Brevin Galloway had 12 points for Charleston (11-6, 5-0 CAA), which earned its sixth straight victory. Sam Miller added seven rebounds.
Marcus Sheffield II had 19 points for the Phoenix (4-13, 0-4 CAA), who have now lost six games in a row. Simon Wright added 17 points and 10 rebounds.
William & Mary 79, UNCW 63
Andy Van Vliet had 18 points and 11 rebounds as William & Mary topped UNCW 79-63 on Thursday night in the Tribe’s first conference home game.
William & Mary (12-5, 4-0 CAA) won its fourth straight game while starting 4-0 in conference play for the fourth time in program history.
Nathan Knight added 17 points and a 17 career-high rebounds for the Tribe while also adding five assists. The double-double was Knight’s 13
th of the season, the best mark in the NCAA.
Luke Loewe had 14 points for William & Mary, while Bryce Barnes added 11 points.
Jaylen Sims had 21 points and six rebounds for the Seahawks (5-13, 0-5 CAA), who have now lost 10 games in a row. Ty Gadsden added 10 points.
Delaware 80, James Madison 76
Dylan Painter had career highs of 23 points and 10 rebounds and Kevin Anderson hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 38 seconds to go and Delaware defeated James Madison 80-76 on Thursday night at the Convocation Center.
Both teams came up empty after Dwight Wilson gave the Dukes a 73-72 lead on a pair of free throws with 1:24 to play. But on their second chance the Blue Hens capitalized with Nate Darling finding Anderson in the left corner for a 3-pointer.
After a James Madison miss, Darling, Anderson and Ryan Allen combined to hit 5-of-6 free throws to seal the result.
Anderson had 16 points for Delaware (12-5, 2-2 CAA), Darling added 15 points and six assists and Justyn Mutts had 10 points and seven rebounds. Painter was 8-of-11 from the field and 7-of-8 from the foul line.
Matt Lewis had 19 points for the Dukes (8-8, 1-4 CAA), Darius Banks added 18 and Dwight Wilson 15 with nine rebounds.
Towson 89, Drexel 73
Brian Fobbs scored 28 points, Allen Betrand added a career-high 23 points and Towson beat Drexel 89-73 on Thursday night at SECU Arena.
Fobbs and Betrand combined to scored 25 points in the first half as Towson led 47-25 after holding Drexel to 39-percent shooting. Fobbs finished 11-of-16 from the field, with four 3-pointers, and Betrand hit 9-of-15 shots.
Fobbs has 16 career games with at least 20 points, including all three career games against Drexel.
Towson (8-9, 2-3 CAA) shot 57-percent from the field, and had 17 assists and nine steals. Dennis Tunstall moved into sole possession of ninth on Towson's career blocks list with his 98th.
Camren Wynter led Drexel (9-8, 2-2 CAA) with 22 points and Coletrane Washington added 17 points. James Butler had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Hofstra 74, Northeastern 72
Eli Pemberton scored 24 points, including the game-winning layup with a half-second remaining and Hofstra handed Northeastern its second-straight heartbreaking loss 74-72 on Thursday night at Matthews Arena.
Jordan Roland, who had 28 points for Northeastern, hit his eighth 3-pointer, a step-back from the top of the circle, to tie the game at 72 with 13 seconds left.
Without using a timeout, Pemberton took a pass on the right wing with five seconds to go. He used a screen at the top of the circle and drove down the left side of the lane, floating the ball over traffic and off the back for the winner.
Hofstra (13-5, 4-1 CAA) led by 16 points at halftime, shooting 59-percent.
Desure Buie added 23 points for the Pride and Isaac Kante had 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Bolden Braced scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Huskies (9-8, 3-2 CAA), who shot 57-percent in the second half. Much of the comeback was fueled by Roland who went 7-of-9 from 3-point range and had 25 points in the final 20 minutes of play.
