Charleston 79, Towson 70
Grant Riller scored 28 points and Charleston broke a tie with Towson with a 79-70 win Saturday afternoon.
Charleston, Hofstra and Towson entered play Saturday tied for second place at 7-3, one game behind conference leader William & Mary. After Saturday’s games, Charleston, Hofstra and William & Mary are tied for first at 8-3.
Towson led by as many as 12 points in the first half and still held a double-digit margin with 1:24 left in the first half after Allen Betrand hit a 3-pointer to make it 38-28. Riller scored at the basket and knocked down a 3 with a second left to cut the lead down to five, 38-33 at intermission.
Jaylen McManus hit a 3 and followed with a layup to put Charleston in front, 41-40 three minutes into the second half. Towson pulled even at 48-48 midway through the half, but never retook the lead.
Brevin Galloway added 16 points for the Cougars (14-9, 8-3). McManus added 14 points and Sam Miller 10.
Betrand finished with 18 points to lead the Tigers (13-10, 7-4), with Jason Gibson adding 16 and Brian Fobbs 15.
Delaware 80, Drexel 72
Nate Darling scored 17 of his 27 points in the first half and Delaware beat rival Drexel 80-72 on Saturday to win its fourth straight and even the season series against the Dragons.
Dylan Painter added 20 and 10 rebounds and Kevin Anderson scored 20 points for the Blue Hens (16-7, 6-4 CAA), who led 38-29 at halftime and by as many as 16 in the second half. Justyn Mutts had eight rebounds.
James Butler scored 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for the Dragons (12-11, 5-5), who outscored Delaware 46-34 in the paint. Camren Wynter scored 22 points and Zach Walton scored 10.
Delaware evened the season series against the Dragons with the win.
Hofstra 83, William & Mary 60
Desure Buie hit 4-of-8 3-pointers and scored 22 points with seven assists and Hofstra beat William & Mary 83-60 on Saturday for its third straight win.
Isaac Kante had 13 points with 10 rebounds for the Pride (17-7, 8-3 CAA), who made 11-of-23 3-pointers and shot 53-percent from the field (32-of-59).
Tareq Coburn made 5-of-8 3-pointers and scored 19 points, Eli Pemberton scored 16 points and Jalen Ray had 10.
Nathan Knight scored 19 points with 16 rebounds and four assists for the Tribe (16-8, 8-3) for his NCAA-leading 18
th double-double on the season. Bryce Barnes added 11 points with two steals and Thornton Scott made five assists.
The Pride evened the season series against the Tribe with the win.
Elon 74, Northeastern 69
Marcus Sheffield II scored 28 points and Hunter McInotsh added 24 as Elon rallied past Northeastern 74-69 on Saturday.
Elon (7-17, 3-8 CAA) shot 61 percent from the field, 10-for-19 on 3-pointers and 10-for-13 from the free-throw line. The hot shooting helped overcome 20 turnovers.
Jordan Roland, who averages 23.4 points per game, struggled from the field but had 19 points for Northeastern (11-12, 5-6 CAA). He shot 4 of 16, including 2 for 9 from 3-point distance. He did make all nine of his free-throw attempts.
Shaquille Walters added 11 points. Maxime Boursiquot had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Huskies.
The Phoenix leveled the season series against the Huskies with the win.
James Madison 83, UNCW 66
Matt Lewis had 21 points as James Madison ended its seven-game losing streak, topping UNCW, 83-66, on Saturday.
Dwight Wilson had 16 points and 12 rebounds for James Madison (9-13, 2-9 CAA), which forced a season-high 21 turnovers. Darius Banks added 13 points and Julien Wooden 11.
Mike Okauru scored a career-high 22 points and had seven rebounds for the Seahawks (7-17, 2-9 CAA). Jaylen Sims added 11 points and six rebounds. Ty Gadsden had 10 points.
The Dukes improve to 2-0 against the Seahawks on the season.
