Northeastern 65, Charleston 51
Northeastern broke open a two-point game by holding Charleston without a field goal for 10 minutes in the second half, rolling to a 65-51 win at Matthews Arena.
Charleston trailed, 45-43, with 13:46 remaining after Zep Jasper’s layup, but the Cougars would not score for the next 10 minutes of play. By the time Brenden Tucker converted a layup, Northeastern (13-13, 7-7 CAA) had opened up a 62-43 lead.
Max Boursiqout had eight of the Huskies’ 17 points in the stretch, capping the 17-0 run with a dunk. Boursiqout recorded a game and career-high 18 points to lead four Huskies in double figures.
In a meeting of the CAA’s two leading scorers, Northeastern’s Jordan Roland had 17 points, while Charleston’s Grant Riller was held to nine, snapping a 54-game streak with 10 or more points.
Bolden Brace added 13 points and eight rebounds for Northeastern, while Tyson Walker chipped in 11. Jasper led Charleston with 10 points.
Hofstra 78, UNCW 64
Isaac Kante scored a career-high 23 points with 14 rebounds, Eli Pemberton scored 23 and Hofstra rolled past UNCW 78-64 on Saturday.
Kante knocked down 6 of 8 shots from the floor and made 11 of 16 free throws for the Pride (20-7, 11-3 CAA). The junior notched his eighth double-double of the season. Pemberton buried 7 of 14 shots and all eight of his free throws. Tareq Coburn hit three 3-pointers and scored 12 with eight rebounds and four assists as Hofstra won its sixth straight game.
Freshman Shykeim Phillips had 14 points to lead the Seahawks (8-20, 3-12 CAA). Ty Gadsden added 11 points, while Marten Linssen and reserve Jaylen Sims both scored 10.
Hofstra shot 46% from the floor but made only 8 of 26 (31%) from beyond the arc. The Pride sank 24 of 32 free throws. UNC Wilmington shot 42% overall and 35% from distance (6 of 17). The Seahawks hit 16 of 19 foul shots.
William & Mary 81, Delaware 77
Nathan Knight powered William & Mary with his NCAA-leading 21st double-double, scoring 33 points and grabbing 12 rebounds as the Tribe rallied after halftime to topple Delaware 81-77 on Saturday.
The Blue Hens, had entered on a seven(equals)game win streak, longest current streak in the Colonial Athletic Association, and were up by seven at the half. William & Mary (18-10, 10-5 CAA) opened the second half on a 15-2 run for a 51-45 lead.
The Blue Hens (19-7, 9-4 CAA) grabbed it back with a 14-2 run before William & Mary asserted control late.
Delaware's Ryan Allen scored on a 3-pointer, cutting the gap to four, stole the ball from Knight but missed from 3-point range and fouled, sending the Tribe's Quinn Blair to the line with 29 seconds left.
Blair added 13 points and Bryce Barnes and Andy Van Vliet each had 12 for the Tribe.
Nate Darling scored 36 points with five 3-pointers and made all 11 free throws to lead Delaware. Collin Goss had 10 points for the Blue Hens while Kevin Anderson added 10 points and six rebounds.
The Tribe improve to 2-0 against Delaware this season.
Elon 75, Drexel 70
Marcus Sheffield II scored24 points as Elon edged Drexel 75-70 on Saturday.
Hunter McIntosh had 18 points and six rebounds for the Phoenix (10-18, 6-9 CAA) and Hunter Woods added 14 points and seven rebounds.
Camren Wynter had 23 points and six assists for the Dragons (13-14, 6-8 CAA). Mate Okros added 13 points and James Butler had 11 points and 12 rebounds.
The largest lead of the game was eight points and there were 10 ties and nine lead changes. Drexel led 37-31 at the half but a three-point play and 3-pointer by Wood to open the second half quickly tied the game.
The Phoenix’ five-point lead inside the last two minutes was the biggest from that point. Sheffield II hit a 3-pointer at the 7:07 mark put Elon on top 59-57 at the Phoenix never trailed again. Butler's dunk with four minutes to go pulled Drexel into a tie at 61.
Kris Wooten of Elon and Okros matched 3-pointers inside of two minutes to keep it a two-point game and after the Okros 3 the Phoenix went 6 of 7 from the line to hold on.
Towson 63, James Madison 48
Towson closed the first half on an 18-4 run and never let James Madison get nearer than nine points after halftime as the Tigers collected a 63-48 win at the Convocation Center.
Towson (16-11, 9-5 CAA) pulled into a tie for third place with Delaware in the CAA standings. The Tigers held James Madison (9-16, 2-12 CAA) to 34.5-percent shooting for the game.
After the Dukes led throughout much of the game’s first 13 minutes, the Tigers pulled into a 21-20 lead with 6:42 to play in the half following Jason Gibson’s 3-point play.
Consecutive 3-pointers from Allen Betrand helped extend Towson’s advantage to 31-23 before Brian Fobbs beat the halftime horn to send Towson into the half up 12, 36-24.
Fobbs scored 10 of his team-high 14 points in the first half and is within 11 points of 1,000 in his Towson career. Betrand added 12 for the Tigers.
Matt Lewis led all scorers with 24 points for JMU, going 9-of-14 from the floor and hitting six 3-pointers. Dwight Wilson had all 12 of his points in the second half for the Dukes.
