CAA Golf Weekly Honors - March 12

RICHMOND, Va. (March 11, 2020) – Elon junior Graham Hutchinson and UNCW sophomore Segundo Oliva Pinto have been named the CAA Men’s Golfers of the Week, while Delaware senior Ariane Klotz and UNCW sophomore Phu Khine have been named CAA Women’s Golfers of the Week.
MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK:
Graham Hutchinson, Elon
Junior | Dallas, Texas/Prosper
Hutchinson earned his first collegiate individual title, winning the Pinehurst Intercollegiate while leading Elon to the team title as well. Competing on the No. 8 course, Hutchinson finished at even-par (71-70-72=213) to win by six strokes. The junior led the field with 10 birdies on the week as he recorded his third top-10 finish of the year. On the venerable No. 8 course, Elon (291-294-293=878) won the team title by 20 strokes.
MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK:
Segundo Oliva Pinto, UNCW
Sophomore | Cordoba, Argentina
Oliva Pinto notched his third career tournament title, posting an 11-under total (65-73-67=205) at the Bash at the Beach. In the process, Oliva Pinto helped UNCW earn the team title as the Seahawks erased a six-stroke deficit in the final nine holes. Oliva Pinto’s individual title was the second of his season and third for his career.
WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK:
Phu Khine, UNCW
Sophomore | Yangon, Myanmar/IMG Academy
Khine collected her third career individual tournament title, leading UNCW to the team championship at the River Landing Classic. Khine was even-par for the tournament, rallying in the final round to post a 4-under 68 (72-76-68=216), climbing from a tie to 10
th into a tie for first. Through seven tournaments this season, Khine owns a scoring average of 72.90.
WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK:
Ariane Klotz, Delaware
Senior | Nouméa, New Caledonia
Klotz tied for first place at the UNF Collegiate, finishing at 1-over par (71-71-75=217) at the Jacksonville Golf & Country Club course. The senior’s effort led the Blue Hens to a sixth-place finish as a team.
CAA MEN’S QUICK NINE:
In the March 10 Golfstat rankings, three CAA programs rank in the top 100 in the country – James Madison sits at No. 58, followed by Charleston (75) and UNCW (90) … In the March 9 Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, JMU is No. 42, while Charleston sits at No. 67 and UNCW No. 98 … JMU competed at the Tiger Invitational, finishing 15
th on the tight leaderboard …
George Heath paced the Dukes at 1-over par (74-68-75=217), tying for 17
th … Charleston will compete this week at The Schenkel, while Delaware, Elon and William & Mary will all be in the field at the ECU Intercollegiate.
CAA WOMEN’S QUICK NINE:
In the Golfstat rankings, Charleston is the CAA’s highest-ranking program at No. 58 in the March 10 ranking … CofC is No. 60 in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings … William & Mary also competed at the River Landing Classic, finishing ninth after posting its best team round of the tournament in the third round …
Sarah Houle was the Tribe’s top finisher, tying for 27
th (80-73-74=227) … At the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Hawai’i, James Madison was 13
th, with
Kate Owens (75-74-76=225) leading the Dukes … Charleston is hosting the Briar’s Creek Invitational March 16-17 at the Golf Club at Briar’s Creek … Elon is competing at the Low Country Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, while James Madison is headed to Sugar Land, Texas, for the Husky Invitational at Riverbend CC.
