Delaware 63, Charleston 54
Samone DeFreese (20 pts, 11 reb), Nicole Enabosi (16 pts, 13 reb) and Jasmine Dickey (15 pts, 12 reb) each tallied double-doubles to lead Delaware to a big win at home against Charleston. Delaware improved to 7-10 in the CAA and 11-17 overall and now sit in a tie for sixth in the CAA standings with Elon. Delaware held the Cougars to 27 percent shooting from the floor and outrebounded Charleston, 58-36. Rebecca Lawrence tallied 10 blocks, good enough for a Delaware record and sits tied for second in CAA single-game history.
Charleston dropped to 6-11 in CAA play and 13-15 overall. The Cougars were led by Tyler Collins with 12 points.
James Madison 61, Elon 58
Kamiah Smalls tallied a game-high 24 points and eight rebounds to lead James Madison to a clutch road win over Elon. The Dukes moved to 15-2 in CAA play to keep pace with Drexel at the top of the CAA standings, and improved to 24-4 overall. Jackie Benitez also poured in 18 points to add to the Dukes’ production. Neither team was able to get more than a nine-point lead in the game, as Elon shot 38 percent from the floor and JMU shot 36 percent. James Madison used a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter to take its first lead of the game and pull ahead by five, executing at the free throw to close the door down the stretch.
Elon fell to 7-10 in the CAA and 12-16 overall. The Phoenix were led in scoring by Saadia Munford with 16 points.
William & Mary 66, Towson 62
William & Mary captured its program-record 21
st overall win and 12
th CAA win against Towson on Thursday night. Eva Hodgson led the way with a game-high 27 points, shooting 9-of-19 from the floor. Victoria Reynolds also tallied 19 points and seven rebounds. William & Mary locked up the No. 3 seed for the CAA Tournament, improving to 12-5 in CAA play and 21-7 overall. The Tribe never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 15. Two fourth quarter runs brought Towson back within two, but Victoria Reynolds knocked down two free throws with two seconds left to close the door on a Tiger comeback.
Towson fell to 9-8 in CAA play and 14-14 overall. The Tigers were led by Nukiya Mayo with 19 points.
Drexel 52, UNCW 50
Drexel trailed by as many as nine against the Seahawks but nine straight points by Bailey Greenberg to start the fourth quarter provided the spark the Dragons needed to pull ahead for good and move to 15-2 in CAA play and 22-7 overall. Greenberg finished the contest with a game-high 16 points. Despite being less efficient from the field than UNCW, the Dragons did force 20 Seahawk turnovers and tallied 17 points off those turnovers. The win was Drexel’s 600
th win in program history.
UNCW fell to 6-11 in CAA play and 9-19 overall. The Seahawks were led by GiGi Smith with 13 points.
