Three Standouts Chosen in 2020 Major League Lacrosse Draft

RICHMOND, Va. (May 4, 2020) – Three Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) men’s lacrosse standouts were chosen in the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Draft, held on Monday evening.
Towson’s
Jon Mazza was selected 10
th overall by the Philadelphia Barrage, while UMass’
Jeff Trainor was selected by the Denver Outlaws with the fifth pick of the sixth round, 35
th overall.
Grant Maloof became the Tigers’ second selection of the night, drafted by the Chesapeake Bayhawks in the seventh round, 42
nd overall.
In 2020, Mazza saw time in all six of Towson’s games, logging nine points on eight goals and one assist, tying for second on the team. In each of the Tigers’ first three games of the season, Mazza scored multiple goals, including a hat trick on Feb. 15.
Trainor collected Inside Lacrosse All-America Third Team honors after helping UMass earn a No. 12 national ranking at season’s end. In seven games, Trainor notched 20 points, posting 14 goals and six assists while also adding 12 groundballs and six caused turnovers. In 2019, Trainor earned All-CAA First Team honors.
Maloof was a preseason all-CAA selection alongside Trainor and finished the abbreviated 2020 season with four points on three goals and one assist. In four of Maloof’s five appearances, Maloof posted at least one point. In 2019, Maloof was an All-CAA Second Team selection.
