CAA Cross Country Weekly Awards – Oct. 12

RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 12, 2021) – The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) has announced its cross country weekly awards following the sixth week of the fall season. Cyrus Kurd of Northeastern was recognized as the CAA Men’s Runner of the Week, while Delaware’s Susanna Weir earned CAA Women’s Runner of the Week honors.
MEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Cyrus Kurd, Northeastern
Freshman | Needham, Mass. / Needham HS
Kurd recorded a personal-best performance at the New England Championships to lead the Northeastern men’s cross country team. The freshman completed the 8K course at Franklin Park in a time of 25:58.40, cutting off over a minute from his previous personal-record.
WOMEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Susanna Weir, Delaware
Graduate | Staten Island, N.Y. / Notre Dame
Weir opened her season with an individual victory at the Delaware invitational. The Staten Island native ran a time of 23:15.8 to pace the field over the 6K course. Weir’s effort led Delaware to defend its home course and take home the team title at the Delaware Invitational.
Men’s Notes
Charleston had a pair of runners run personal-best times at the Royals Challenge. Jackson Reid paced the Cougars running a lifetime-best 26:10.5, while Hammer Blair also recorded a personal-record, finishing in a time of 26:18.9 …
Northeastern had three runners earn personal-records at the New England Championships. Noah Mooney (26:16.6) and Daniel Caso (27:11.8) joined Kurd running personal-best times.
Women’s Notes
Cate Ambrose paced
Charleston for the fourth time in as many meets this fall, running a personal-best 5K time of 17:44.8 to place 13
th at the Royals Challenge. Emily Dorony (18:22.4) and Sophia Brown (18:29.9) also set personal-records in the race, recording top-50 finishes …
Delaware placed nine runners inside the top 10 en route to a team victory at its home invitational. Weir was the top Blue Hen finisher followed by Tina Capparell (23:15.9) in second and Julien Webster (23:45.3) in third.
