RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 20, 2021) – Northeastern head coach
Bill Coen enters his 16
th year at the helm on Huntington Avenue this winter.
Coen and the Huskies have appeared in the CAA semifinals in eight of the last nine years, a run that includes a pair of conference tournament crowns. Last year’s truncated season still allowed the opportunity for Coen to pass Jim Calhoun as Northeastern’s all-time wins leader at 251.
When you lead one program to consistent success for the better part of a decade and a half, the record book will need some updating.
This winter, Coen begins the season 11 wins shy of matching Jim Larranaga for the CAA’s all-time record in victories against conference opponents. With the return of a pair of double-digit scorers, an impact intra-conference transfer, and additional contributors, the Huskies look to continue their run of being a major CAA factor into March.
Jahmyl Telfort earned CAA Sixth Man of the Year honors last season with 11.8 ppg off the bench for Northeastern, while
Shaquille Walters averaged 10.6 ppg and nearly seven rebounds a night.
Jason Strong looks to elevate his scoring output after contributing 9.3 ppg a year ago.
Joe Pridgen, who averaged 12.1 ppg and 8.2 rebounds per contest at UNCW last year, has transferred to Northeastern. The Huskies also look to benefit from the additions of
Tyreek Scott-Grayson, who was a contributor to UAB’s offense last season, and
Nikola Djogo, who shot 41% from distance for Notre Dame.
The non-conference slate opens with the first half of an in-season home-and-home with Colgate when the Huskies head to Central New York on November 9. Northeastern will play its final six non-conference dates at home with three Atlantic 10 members visiting Matthews Arena, including No. 23 St. Bonaventure on December 22.
