CAA Volleyball Weekly Awards – Nov. 1

RICHMOND, Va. (Nov. 1, 2021) – The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) has announced its weekly volleyball awards following the tenth week of the 2021 fall season. Julia Brown of William & Mary was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week, James Madison’s Savannah Marshall earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors, and Hofstra’s Beatriz Alves received CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Julia Brown, William & Mary
Graduate | Middle Blocker | Geneva, Ill. / Geneva HS
In her final weekend at Kaplan Arena, Brown led William & Mary to a split with Elon, averaging 3.88 kills per set on a scorching .529 hitting percentage. The graduate student posted 10 kills on a .474 hitting percentage in a setback on Saturday. However, in the weekend finale, Brown recorded a career-high 21 kills, hitting .563, and added five blocks with a service ace to lead the Tribe to a five-set victory. Brown ranks fourth in the CAA in hitting percentage (.338) and kills per (3.25) set this season.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Savannah Marshall, James Madison

Marshall anchored James Madison’s back row in a pair of straight-set victories over Northeastern. The victories helped James Madison clinch a CAA tournament berth and stay in a tie for first place in the conference standings. Marshall averaged 4.33 digs per set and chipped in 2.33 assists per set from her libero position. On Saturday, the senior recorded a match-high 10 digs to help limit Northeastern to a .038 hitting percentage. She added six assists and two service aces in the effort. On Sunday, Marshall led James Madison with 16 digs while adding eight assists and two service aces to cap off the weekend.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Beatriz Alves, Hofstra

Alves continued her stellar freshman campaign with another strong week, helping Hofstra to back-to-back wins over UNCW. Alves averaged 11.38 assists per set, facilitating the Pride attack while adding 1.38 digs and 1.25 kills per set over the weekend. On Saturday, she recorded 45 assists, seven digs, four kills, two service aces and a pair of blocks to help the Pride win in four sets. In the weekend finale, Alves tallied 46 assists, six kills, four digs, two blocks and a service ace as Hofstra earned a four-set victory. Alves ranks second in the CAA with 9.48 assists per set this season and has recorded 40 or more assists in eight matches this fall.
